Labour are backtracking on a plan to help save birds: by blocking a new rule that would make developers put a £35 nest brick in every new home. They think it'll help win them votes - we need to show it would do the opposite. Sign the petition 38d.gs/ky2i
Sign the petition: Save Our Swifts
Swifts have lost more than half their population in 20 years. A simple £35 brick in new builds could help save them. Labour used to support this – now they’re planning to backtrack. Sign the petition ...

Brilliant!
paraphrasing a bit...

Arguing with Brexiteers is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are, the bird is going to shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway.

Wonder how many of those federal workers who've lost their jobs are Republican and voted for Trump last November?

On the one hand this just reinforces that by "free speech" the right actually means "restricted speech for you, free speech for me and people who agree with me only".

On the other hand this clearly signposts that Signal works and we should probably adopt it and dump the Meta-controlled WhatsApp.

A reminder that Sadiq Khan successfully won three elections in a row by large majorities against Conservative opponents, one of whom, Shaun Bailey, was then given a seat in the House of Lords for life.

Funnily enough I don't remember the Daily Mail describing that as a "reward for failure"

There are more than 10m children in school in the UK…but, per Times, 3,000 might move to state sector because of VAT rise…so Whitehall is “braced” 😲😲😲

Says a lot about UK media bubble, the way this story is reported.

You pay VAT on luxuries. Private schooling is that.

As farmers protest at paying tax for the 1st time on multi-million pound inheritances, a thread on some of the tax breaks farmers get, often uniquely.

Fair enough; food is important. But the idea farmers are being unfairly treated is mad. They get hugely beneficial treatment from the tax system

A word on the Allison Pearson free speech row, and what she describes as a ‘Kafkaesque’ threat to it. We asked her on @thenewsagents.bsky.social to discuss.
She said: ‘No. And if you get any aspect of the story wrong my lawyers will be watching.’
Gotta love a free speech warrior 🤷🏻‍♂️

Gateway drug to so much lunatic shit and extremism.

Brilliantly designed to build an easily triggered audience of deranged and deluded voters. Then swing them in behind specific reactionary campaigns.
