Two years ago I interviewed a 31-year-old NY state assemblymember about a 7-year-old girl killed by an SUV driver in his district. I hung up the phone, astonished that I'd talked to a legislator who so thoughtfully articulated what actually needs to change on our streets.

Idle prediction: We see crafts like knitting, model airplanes, etc. become more popular because you can't ask Chat GPT to make you a sweater or glue together a P-51 yet and therefore they become more impressive feats relative to other hobbies you can "outsource."

Some have argued that traffic cameras are a regressive tax on low-income people. While I agree that fines could be somewhat commensurate with income, maybe people of any income could just stop driving 15 mph above the speed limit?
