Yep! There is even great research that shows that these are precisely the kind of people, who would want to join the secret police -- because they are not good for anything else: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Many good climate podcasts out there, but few are as well produced as Living Planet from DW. I am happy to have contributed to this episode on Norwegian climate and petroleum policy and politics. It skips important details, but is well worth listening to!

Have Chinese greenhouse gas emissions reached a peak?

Many people seem to be boldly saying yes. I think it is too premature.

Lots of good things happening in China, a peak is expected soon, as we have been saying for 10 years...

Since you all are talking about interventions at the Climate Summit 2025:

1) remarkable how Jinping’s 1st sentence refers to the 10 year anniversary of Paris Accord

2) Remember: China tends to underpromise, always

3) China is not going all electrostate for normative climate leadership purposes

The Pentagon demands journalists to sign a pledge not to obtain or report any information - even if unclassified - unless it has been expressly authorized by the government.

To be clear, as a reporter who is also covering different aspects of 🇺🇸 military, I will never sign such restrictions.

I feel for you, citizens of the USA.

An administration that governs without knowledge will stop solving problems, but continue to create them. Numbers are not sufficient to create good governance, but good governance is impossible without them.

You don't see what you don't look for.

Trump ends annual report on U.S. hunger amid rising food insecurity.
Stops collecting data on climate change as it worsens.
Stops reporting economic data as the economy weakens.

Information is the enemy of lies.

Trump ends annual report on U.S. hunger amid rising food insecurity
The Trump administration is ending a decades-long report on U.S. hunger, calling it “politicized.” Last year, the USDA report warned of rising food insecurity.

I am ready for a new cycle of @ipcc.bsky.social report-making. I am far from the only Norwegian, joining the crew of 6 from @cicero.oslo.no. I am the only one from @statsvitenskap.bsky.social, but quite a lot political scientists are involved.

Wish us luck!

It is great to see five contributors to IPCC AR7 coming from little @cicero.oslo.no in Oslo, Norway (where?) with only 100 or so employees (including admin and comms).

Who are they?

The pulling of Colbert and Kimmel is a perfect reminder that living in autocracy is dangerous to those that expose themselves and, for the ordinary median citizens, it is vastly dull and boring.

Norwegian elections resulted in continued Labour minority rule. Greens are happy with best election results ever, other small green parties lost votes. Record high support for populist right Fremskrittspartiet. Devastatingly bad result for the conservatives. What does it mean for climate policy? 1/

Yes, absolutely a chance that SP will shift and join the conservatives. KrF has shifted radically toward populist right-wing culture war in this election, it will not join the lefts. I guess V will support ambitious climate proposals, but they are too small to matter much.
elinlb.bsky.social
Positive change can happen if Labour (it has a substantial internal climate fraction) decides to put in tremendous effort in working with the fractured parliament and convince the left parties+populist agrarian Center Party or the conservatives to support a positive shift for climate. Unlikely. 3/3

Norwegian climate policy will not be dismantled. The country will continue to allow high investments in oil and gas, and facilitate exploration for new oil fields. It is not likely that Norway will strengthen climate governance with clear targets, good procedure and strong climate admin. 2/

Hold your horses, not sure this is a good case for your argument. Not clear what the outcome will be yet. It is because of the UNFCCC that the EU discussion is so heated now. Really looking forward to the book. My students truly ❤️ the paper.
