Though at the risk of criticising the joke about Sir John's leg, it appears Sir John was quite dead for some time before the actual cannibalism began. But hey, maybe they dug up and for some 'vintage' meat...)

(If you don't know what HMS Erebus was, it was part of a two-ship edition to find the north-west passage. They got trapped in ice for years, their tinned food turned out to be spoiled, and they ended up trekking ashore and surviving briefly by cannibalism.
