As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

Something I've done to protect what little peace I have left these days: I don't open social media or news apps mindlessly now. I brace myself for bad news a couple of times a day when I log on, but I am not being confronted with it 24/7.

Got my first "Violating an Executive Order" and "I'll make sure you lose federal funding" parent threat today for teaching "DEI" books in our upcoming "Liberty and Justice" themed unit. Even in "Blue" Massachusetts we're dealing with this.

Anyway, don't obey in advance, and don't obey later.

Finished A Strange and Stubborn Endurance last night ❤️

@fozmeadows.bsky.social I genuinely can't thank you enough for the break from reality you gave me these past couple weeks 💙📚

Spotted on today's mental health walk. It brought me so much joy, and I hope it brings some to you too, internet friends 💖

Every time I see "MAHA," my brain automatically thinks, "Make America Hate Again." And ya know what? Not gonna correct that one.

just stumbled on a real jaw-dropper of a line in an essay -- “The corollary of being interested in a great range of things is to have sympathy with a great range of outlooks” -- and that, my friends, is why reading is so important.

If you ask library workers to describe their dream library, one of the first things they’ll mention is having a social worker at the library (emphasizing the extraordinary helpers that they are!) 💚

Love that the Miami-Dade Library has social services to help neighbors access resources & programs ✨

New growth on my fiddle leaf 🥲 I've never had the greenest thumb, so this makes me extra happy.

I'm sure there's a poem in here somewhere 🌿

Was going to do an intro more related to reading or writing, but this already existed from IG so there ya have it 📚✍️💙📷☀️

Anyone else absolutely losing it every time you scroll by you-know-who in his black t-shirt and gold necklace talking about *masculinity*? I know it’s a dog whistle. I know it’s BS. I have to believe even he doesn’t believe what he’s saying. But I still want to scream. (1/2)

100% same. No notes.
Late #QOTD: How do you “rate” books out of 5 stars??

Me? It’s all about vibes:

5/5 ⭐️ = strong emotional response
4/5 ⭐️ = strong writing, characters, story, but no emotional connection
3/5 ⭐️ = lacking in the above, but entertaining
2/5 ⭐️ = likely DNF
1/5 ⭐️ = loathsome/bigoted material

This whole thread 💙
Questions to ask yourself if you are feeling overwhelmed, like me.

1. I know you care about all the issues, but is there one or two that you are deeply passionate about and connected to?

2. Who is already working on those issues and what do they need? Can you commit to fulfilling that need?

I have a little plea and it's this: please keep posting about things that aren't The Horrors. I am not saying to not look at or be informed about The Horrors. What I am saying—what I am genuinely kind of begging you to do—is keep posting about books and movies and sunsets and pets and joy. Please.
