I start every class with my 8th graders during Black History Month with a favorite poem. Today's is from Langston Hughes.
"I'll stop the world and melt with you. I've seen some changes, but it's getting better all the time. There's nothing you and I won't do. I'll stop the world and melt with you."

If we could make love songs from fear of nuclear annihilation in the 80s, we can make art and fight fascism presently.

Not sure who needs to hear this but the voter fraud rate is a mere 0.000003%. Anyone telling you otherwise is making shit up so they can take away your right to vote.

Going to say something wild: Once your chatbot tells you it's become sentient, and lures you to a beach to meet your soulmate that you have loved in 87 previous lives, for you only to be standing alone on a beach . . . Don't let the chatbot lure you out for another date.

ChatGPT promised to help her find her soulmate. Then it betrayed her
ChatGPT sent screenwriter Micky Small down a fantastical rabbit hole. Now, she's finding her way out.

hi, welcome to the last 20 years of edtech
A genuinely alarming piece in the NYT about how the developers, scientists and assorted techbros behind "AI companions"/"synthetic care" do not even know or understand the potential harms of the tech they're developing but they're too greedy to stop themselves from developing it.

Local students from the two local high schools walked out against ICE yesterday, meeting up in our town square.

This sign is so damn good.

We must never normalize these ongoing attacks by DHS agents on the people they supposedly protect.

Trump, Vance, Miller, & Noem have created a culture of impunity that has led to rampant abuse and killings.

Not one more dime for this lawlessness.

and we're all taking that as a big if
Be careful, folks. ICE is still out there, circling the schools this morning. Even if this withdrawal is happening over the next week, some of the agents want to get their last bit of being shitheads in.

Chadwick Boseman and James van der Beek both died in their 40s of an illness that's treatable if a colonoscopy catches it but almost no insurer covers them for people under 45, this is what Engels meant by "social murder"

this is the core of most superhero comics, and why folks judging this annoy me.

you know batman is gonna survive, the tension is in OMG HOW

you can know exactly how a movie ends and its better for it, actually
People have shit-talked romance and the skill it takes to write it since the inception of the genre. Calling the HEA predictable, etc. But you can know an HEA is coming and still bawl your eyes out because it feels like it won’t. A talented author built that tension, mined those emotions.

Rockwell would have painted this.
Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.
