Like Kendrick, political as hell precisely because it doesn't bother to acknowledge the haters. They're irrelevant, beneath attention. And nothing is more intolerable to fascists than the thought that their enemies are cool, enjoying themselves, and not thinking about them.

Feeling bad for anyone who had to pretend to like Kid Rock's halftime show, while we were watching Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, Lady Gaga, and Cardi B put on the best dance party any Super Bowl has ever seen.

It's almost as if everything from bitcoin to AI to everything in late-stage capitalism is a pyramid scheme that's collapsing under the weight of its own delusion.
Hey so just wondering if we’ve considered having an economy that *isn’t* almost entirely based around deranged hype-fueled grifts, that’s the only economy I’ve ever experienced but I feel like there’s gotta be a better option

Generally speaking, the minute you see the word “Fabio” attached to an article about romance other than as history, you can throw the entire thing into the garbage. It’s a sneer, designed as communication from one person who thinks romance is stupid to another.
fuck this lady, fuck the nyt reporter, fuck all of this. fuck amazon for introducing the KU page read model that makes this possible, fuck our tech overlords.

RFK Jr on what he'll eat during the Super Bowl: "I am on a carnivore diet so I just eat meat and ferments, and I'm very happy with that. So I'm probably going to have yogurt."

And also, just like all fucking generative AI, this is just massive, scaled-up theft. This woman is functionally stealing money out of the KU pool from authors who are writing and publishing their own original works USING A TOOL that was itself built on stolen works.

most of all, fuck everybody who sees romance as a cash register rather than a genre worthy of respect. the booktok to AI slopfest pipeline has been the most grim, depressing downward spiral. it sucks.

This article on grief and autism is really good.

I don’t talk much about my autism diagnosis when I was 13, but it happened because after my dad died, my grief was “weird” and destabilizing. I lost the ability to mask, and the first psychologist I visited saw me for exactly who I was.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

In terms of paper waste, maybe, but ebooks aren'tthe solution. Speaking as a librarian, ebooks are the bane of my fucking existence. I can buy 10 MMPB for the cost of 1 restricted access temporary license ebook. See:
bsky.app/profile/book...
Mass market paperbacks that were unsold within 90 or 120 days had their covers stripped (as proof of destruction) then were pulped. Up to 50% of the print run would be destroyed this way. Horribly wasteful: we're MUCH better off with ebooks as the cheap/disposable reading format of choice.
The mass market paperback, light in the hand and on the wallet, once filled airport bookstores and supermarket media aisles. You may never buy a new one again.
