This girl was one of the St. Francis students who spoke. The school board should be ashamed of themselves for trying to take books away from her.
Minnesota: A student from St. Francis High School testified to her school board Monday about the restrictive policy that led to at least 47 books—including Beloved, Brave New World, and The Handmaid's Tale— being banned in her district.

I had the enormous pleasure of speaking at this school board meeting and hearing these kids give impassioned, insightful, and eloquent speeches against book banning. It was deeply inspiring. The school board has done them a massive disservice. pen.org/st-francis-m...

Here’s the deal: Make reading your hobby this year. It’ll expand your mind, grow your perspective, and if you grab a library card, you’ll be supporting authors too (yes, in places like the UK, AU, NZ, and Canada, libraries pay authors!). Reading isn’t just fun—it’s a win for everyone.

In this post (www.lifeisasacredtext.com/gratitudes), I explain some ways you might use this tool on those days when nothing is going right, or when the pain of the world is overwhelming-- or, even better, as a daily practice.

Might help a lot, just saying.

No, @booker.senate.gov, you think the guy using eugenicist rhetoric about my kid has some good things to say. So I’m not giving you money.
Missing in this conversation is how hateful this discussion is toward autistic people. The idea that it’s better for a kid to have polio than autism is eugenicist, but the opposition to RFK won’t even engage with it. It’s as upsetting as it is predictable.
I don’t normally stray here into politics, but this is global health and child mortality: somewhat terrified this will negatively impact not just public health in the USA, but could normalise this view further afield

For the other 2 I haven't read, I have one on audiobook waiting for me and one on hold at the library. Favs? #mglit #newbery

Also download the library app Libby. You can preview about 60 pages of a book without borrowing it to see if you like it. I found many cool fantasy books there. Works with many libraries

Better yet, take that card and see all the stuff you can get with it! Libraries are so rad, I'm always amazed by how much you can do with a library card, or even just being in the library.

Minnesota Senators @amyklobuchar.com and @smith.senate.gov are both on here, sacrificing at-risk kids' mental health for...something I guess. What are Minnesota parents supposed to think?
Here are the democrats who voted to no longer cover gender affirming care for military kids.

SHAME ON EACH OF YOU

basically, when you tell me you're not going to stand up for trans kids, immigrant kids, poor kids, disabled kids, you are telling me you don't care about children. and then I can't support you.
