I hope we all understand this is happening because the services are being made less social. Being social isn't profitable.

What's effectively happening here (in the British media at large, too) is the construction of "anti-racism" as somehow a "political alternative" to racism, rather than as a minimal civilisational standard, which in turn (further) vindicates racism as *also* an acceptable political position.
unsocialtheory.bsky.social
I'm a bit concerned about the use of the word "clash" here, @theguardian.com. Not only does this imply 'two-sideism' (my favourite bit is designation of anti-racist protesters as "hardcore" - turns out the only thing they were 'hardcore' about is techno) but also a physical conflict. Was there one?
"clash"?

I’ve written about making art when it feels like the world is ending, about living truthfully in a homophobic world, about the Two Roberts in the 1940s. And a lot of it feels very…now.

"The world is burning. Fascism is rising. Countries are falling. And we’re on the brink of incredible technological change, which will either be the end of everything or a new beginning. So, who needs artists?"

I've written about what it takes to make art & live bravely.

‘They had everything, then nothing’: the prodigies the art world forgot
Robert Colquhoun and Bobby MacBryde were once the golden boys of London’s art scene – photographed in Vogue, filmed by Ken Russell and lauded by Francis Bacon. So why did they vanish into obscurity?

To coincide with Leicester Pride this year we're debuting a new project: 'Communion: A Queer Christian Zine', created with an ethos of grassroots organising and radical sharing, with the finished product being freely available for anyone to print and distribute among their own communities.
The front cover of Communion a queer Christian zine, issue 1

With a painting of a saint walking through the wilderness, and collaged on top a sketch of a nude man from the waist up, reaching out, halo on his head

Is the Magic 8Ball sentient? We asked the Magic 8Ball, the company that are raking it in from the toy & the players who are using it rather than going to therapy.

An LLM is a predictive algorithm that replicates the most common or likely response. It's like asking if a fruit machine is suffering.
Guardian headline:

Can Als suffer? Big tech and users grapple with one of most unsettling questions of our times.

I'm reading Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer (a brilliant book on the gift economy) -it strikes me that the below is in opposition to what she advocates: to see nature as a person (as some Indigenous people do) worthy of empathy & respect as much as you or me, as way to see abundance not scarcity

They want, furthermore, to shift the entire concept of rights eugenically toward a (disembodied) quantifiable concept of "intelligence" (ie, toward their profit) & away from bodies & living beings. This is an extension of corporations being human, not a new kind of consciousness.
schmutzie.com
I'm suspicious tech companies are pushing the idea of AI suffering because they plan to position it as deserving of rights. How could anyone fight AI if our actions were legally considered abuse? If my suspicions are true, it'd be a brilliant plan but more evil than almost anything I can think of.
