A photo I took in Copenhagen in July: “Spectacular and innovative in the true sense of the words. That’s CopenHill. The artificial skiing slope and the recreational hiking area opened in fall 2019, built on top of the new waste management center”
Why can’t we have political visionaries like this;

I was very sad to hear of the passing of Dame Joan Metge this week. I was too sick to farewell her in person, so this is my wee poroporoakī to her, into the ether. I first met her in the 80s when she came to do a lecture on anthro and ended up giving me some hue she had grown, from her boot!

Went to Toi Tū Toi Ora: Contemporary Māori Art was the largest Māori exhibition in the history of Auckland Art Gallery and attracted attendance levels not seen by the gallery since 1989. Its triumph masked a deeper tension. Amazing! A must see..

Day 2 in Copenhagen, Helsingor - Elsinor. Home to Kronburg Castle, the closest point to Sweden. Shakespeare used the castle, renaming it Elsinor, as the setting for Hamlet. In the museum, an exhibition about society and punishment. This banner stood out!

Got to give a Professorial Address about my research on Māori entrepreneurship. It was daunting, in front of whānau, old friends, students, and colleagues. It was a privilege! Thanks to the Business School at AUT for the privilege.

Kia ora Bluesky friends, I am hoping someone can help me find the whānau of Raiha Mete. We found her paint spattered image, printed on wood, by NZ artist Charles McPhee. I would love to help find her way home…

Dunedin airport, bleak weather, home to Tāmaki Makaurau after a magical week in the ‘deep south’ of our beautiful lands, new places, new people, new experiences, very restorative, in preparation for who knows what 2025 may bring!

#Rakiura night 3, huge thanks to Angie Karaitiana and her team at Beaks and Feathers for taking a gaggle of grey geese, us oldies on bucket-list trips, to find kiwi, tokoeka, we met an old fella and a sassy young gal, and got to watch a full moon rise at 11pm, pure magic!

#Rakiura still day 2, Ulva Island, bird sanctuary, ancient forest, home to the dinosaur plant Tmesepteris, 440 million years old, with equally fascinating Māori and Pākehā histories.
And there is still the Dark Skies observation tonight after dark!

#Rakiura day 2, stopped for a coffee and obligatory Southland Cheese Roll at the fabulous Snuggery.
I wanted coffee to go, they gave me a jar, asking to return it when I can as they don’t do disposable cups.
I ended up reading the book for my trip to Ulva Island, so finished my coffee!

#Rakiura2, made the hearty trek up to Observation Rock, so worth it. And, after the farmslands from Dunedin to Bluff, the native bush, what the tūpuna might have seen on arrival, is magnificent!
