And none of this is to say that the cost of housing in Toronto is acceptable or good.

Average household income in the City is about half that much which would indicate that the overwhelming majority of people in Toronto do make it work.

I think a lot of this may come down to someone's definition of "house poor"

Agree.

It feels weird giving this a "like"

I think the other big mistake Tarantino has made is Being A Creepy Asshole.

If you were likely to be shot, maimed or killed in that class, I would not begrudge you.

Was that not your point here?

To be clear, in my experience, not all who serve in the armed forces do so knowing they will (much less wanting to) fight in a war. Further, many are ready to fight but don't want to fight in a war based on lies, imperial gamesmanship, etc.

Have you considered that those who serve in the armed forces do so knowing there is a chance they might have to fight in a war? Almost as if that's sort of the point?

So, when a NATO power says that it’s time for war - or someone like you tells me that all soldiers are delighted to go die in a conflict their superiors have engineered - a deep and weary wave of cynicism and fear washes over me.

We were told these were noble causes that young people would be happy to die for. However, we soon learned that they were cynical exercises and that many enlisted people were deeply opposed and not at all happy to kill and die for.
December 6, 2025 at 5:54 PM
In each of the aforementioned conflicts, NATO powers solemnly insisted that the safety of humanity was at stake and produced compelling evidence about the need for war – which was later exposed as completely fraudulent. They lied to all of us. They always do.

I don’t know if you have been in the armed forces (I suspect not but please correct me) but people are driven into it for a lot of reasons (financial necessity being one) and don’t want to go die – especially not in pointless conflict.
December 6, 2025 at 5:53 PM
I lived through the Iraq Wars, Afghanistan and numerous other dumb invasions and can attest that many people who take on military service do so out of reasons other than a burning desire to go die in conflict.

Germany is (another) NATO power that is now moving towards (and quite openly contemplating) conscription – which seemed germane to your assertion that no one is ever sent to war against their will.

Send your kids then.
December 5, 2025 at 9:24 PM
I think I am blaming the script for that. Some of these kids gave great performances in earlier series and I believe they can act.
But I think, especially in the first episode of s5, the dialogue is super clunky and exposition heavy.

People say a -100 rating is impossible, but Starmer may yet prove them wrong.

Update: they are all crazy.
December 3, 2025 at 10:13 PM
Probably the latter but they were too cowardly to put their names to their demand letter so hard to be definitive.

If Biden had drifted off during a media event people would have lost their minds.
