Yes, all the pearl clutching editorials at the Oregonian set the stage for Trump to waltz in with his troops. The Portland is burning narrative is as untrue now as it was in 2020.

The Oregonian editorial board linked this post in their Trump editorial today because they know it’s true and that they are partially responsible for promoting the idea that Portland is a crime ridden hellscape.

They want to pretend it never happened when confronted with their own complicity.

I don’t want to hear anymore “Portland is dying” narrative or vague complaints about “ANTIFA” as the clarion call for action in the city. All of that led to Trump targeting us. Groups like People for Portland, associated right-wing media ecosystem, and political opportunists own this.

Aside from misgendering Karin Immergut, Trump asserts that Portland is burning to the ground, citing TV as evidence. I’m not even sure if Trump realizes he is lying because he’s probably been fed manipulated footage from 2020 on Fox News. Maybe he should ask the FBI or anyone in Portland.

A day after U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut, an appointee of President Trump, issued a temporary restraining order blocking the deployment of 200 National Guard troops to Portland, NBC News’ Julie Tsirkin asked the president for his reaction to her ruling.

What do you call it when a sitting president ignores a federal judges’s order not to send the National Guard to Portland? It’s a clear violation of a legal judicial order from a judge Trump appointed. If the Republicans don’t speak up, this says volumes about the absence of the rule of law.

Another caricature of Portland from the Times. If only Portland were half as socialist as this article claims we are.

SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
No. 25A326
KRISTI NOEM, SECRETARY, DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, ET AL. v. NATIONAL TPS ALLIANCE, ET AL.
ON APPLICATION FOR A STAY
[October 3, 2025]
In March of this year, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California entered a preliminary order postponing the effective date of the Secretary of Homeland Security's decision to remove "temporary protected status" (TPS) from Venezuelan nationals living in the United States. See 8 U.S. C. §1254a; 5 U.S. C. §705.
In May, this Court stayed that order while the Government appealed. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ultimately affirmed the District Court's preliminary order. Last month, the District Court entered final judgment in respondents' favor, holding unlawful and setting aside the Secretary's actions effectuating her decision— namely, her vacatur of a pending extension of TPS for Venezuelan nationals, and her termination of that status itself.
See 5 U. S. C. §706(2). (The District Court also concluded that the Secretary unlawfully vacated a TPS extension for Haitian nationals. The Government now seeks to stay the portions of the District Court's judgment pertaining to Ven-ezuela, but not Haiti. See Application 7, n. 6.)
The application for stay presented to JUSTICE KAGAN and by her referred to the Court is granted. Although the posture of the case has changed, the parties' legal arguments and relative harms generally have not. The same result that we reached in May is appropriate here. NOEM v. NATIONAL TPS ALLIANCE
JACKSON, J., dissenting
The September 5, 2025 order entered by the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, case No. 25-cv-1766, is stayed as to the Venezuela vacatur and Venezuela termination, pending the disposition of the Government's appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and disposition of a petition for a writ of certiorari, if such writ is timely sought. Should the petition for a writ of certiorari be denied, this stay shall terminate automatically. In the event certiorari is granted, the stay shall terminate upon the sending down of the judgment of this Court.
JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR and JUSTICE KAGAN would deny the application.
JUSTICE JACKSON, dissenting from the grant of application for stay.

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance.

Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.

We have been sent here to fight for people.

The US has long considered itself immune from international law, and has historically assassinated people all over the world, mining a harbor in Nicaragua, and engaged in military coups in Latin America, so this is nothing new.

Wrong then. Wrong now.

Reminder that Miller once asked an admiral “When a boat full of migrants is in int’l waters, they aren’t protected by the U.S. Constitution, right?” When admiral said that’s technically true, but int’l law still applied, Miller replied: “why can’t we use a Predator drone to obliterate that boat?”
