Sorry to hear you didn’t like it. I rather enjoyed Jones’ Plantagenets, but I get the criticism. It is such a broad scope. Ward of the Roses though - so much drama. So good.

Anyway. I’ve just started painted up a Napoleonic French Army and I’ve got a Republican Roman and Carthaginian Army in 10mm. New historical wargaming rules may come. But they’ll never require a change to the Army composition. That’s historical fact. And they’re never £40 for core and Army books.

They haven’t even released the new edition rules for my Middle Earth army yet.

Rather than tri-annual rule overhauls, they need to do more campaign books, more narrative fluff rules. More scope to change things within the old core rules. I forgot the new edition of Middle Earth as well! I’ve got lots of GW armies but I can’t keep up with the rules.

They could have done a new version of Underworlds, Warcry, Necromunda, Bloodbowl - they already did a new Kill Team last year on top of Sigmar, and Old World last winter. Heresy had Legions Imperialis recently too. The pace of rule releases is too high.

It’s not just the new rules, it’s the idea that come 2028, they might do this again. We thought that after Age of Darkness the Heresy rules were set in stone for 6 years or so, and that GW would continue to release new editions of Sigmar and 40K on a three year cycle, and the specialists led often.

I’m keen to see what changes they make. But I’m mad at the prospect of all these only being “valid” for a 3 year span. I might as well keep playing 2nd ed Heresy. I don’t want to buy lots of expensive bulky hard back books. A hobby group can just after to not update to the new edition.

Epic challenges- cool in principle. We’re here for our personally created characters Lore characters and Primarchs bashing each other. Heresy should feel like the Iliad. Epic challenges with special rules that only work in them - good.

For instance splitting Leadership into Intelligence and Cool like RT, I like. It’s very classic RPG. It also gives the possibility of say, a high Int but low Ld unit being good at casting Psykic powers, but liable to run, when before both those went off Ld. So I like that. If that’s what they do.

I saw that with 2nd ed there was a clear idea of making Early 40K in narrative (Heresy) feel like Early 40K in reality (rogue trader) with Mk6 marines and Land Raider Proteus etc. so I really like bringing back the RT stat line. But that’s contingent on them making good use of the stats.

But Heresy was also appealing because the rules were not subject to change. It was still very much 7th ed. You could expect to not have to change your army. That’s a huge deal for me. My Heresy armies are hobby projects first.

Now, I actually like the route they’re taking with the rules changes.

The Ladykillers remake is objectively the wrong answer unfortunately.
