I post about movies, stuff I do like art and making mounts to hold fragile old things, random life stuff I think is clever, and sometimes life advice from a trans man
After a day spent primarily on the sofa doomscrolling (COVID & an injured back) I feel like Tiresias. In just having seen too much. Off to unplug in prep for returning to work tomorrow. Need to get my head right.

Be gentle with yourself when you can my friends, because the world, isn't

Ok people. I'm going to reiterate what I have said before: be safe out there. If something feels off, leave right then. Don't try to rationalize, just go.

I'm talking about the recent violence, but also about illegal ICE activities.

Please, please, be safe out there

"Fire City: End of Days" (2015)

I had hoped this would be a film like "Constantine" ('05) filled with an epic battle between good & evil. What I got instead was a latex filled slog of a 'bad guy turned good' origin story. Not based on a comic, book or other movie. "B" for a unique concept tho

I have recently come to the realization that I have far more art supplies than I will ever use in my lifetime.

Helluva thought for a sober man

It pleases me to know my current hyperfixation (Making Turkish Delights) has leaked onto my friends' feeds on various platforms. I now have had the same video recommended to me 4x by friends, with it popping up on my partner's Youtube recommendations as well

Ahahahahahaha

Alt: a man is eating a bunch of Turkish delights all at once. You are gonna choke buddy!

Tested positive for COVID last night. This is my 4th? 5th? time around, even with the vaxx. Which reduced it's ferocity.

Back is also, *very* slowly getting better.

But I did manage to perfect one style of Turkish Delights, before I got sick, so...its a wash

"Pumpkin head: Ashes to Ashes" (2006)

Watch the first Pumpkin head, & ONLY that one & call it good. A mild attempt to incorporate headlines from the time, into a cult favored mythos, using a couple horror heavy hitters (L. Hendricksen & D. Bradley aka Pinhead). Made me angry at the lost potential

"Margaux" (2022)

Pretty formulaic, with the traditional horror friends clique, that has been updated to add the 'influencer'. Begs the ?, where does homage to previous horror staples start, & where does just a mishmash of cultural references so old the directors hoped we wouldn't notice, begin?

Hi. How are things?

I'm at day 6 of my back being out of commission.

And my partner just tested positive for COVID.

AND I STILL DON'T HAVE A SUCCESSFUL TURKISH DELIGHT BATCH!!

Yeah. That's all. Cool cool.

In being at day 5 with a severely screwed up back, I can only hope I learn my lesson from this. Which is: don't 'push through' pain, or you'll pay for it later.

While I'm not grinding myself down like I did in my 20's, I still push myself too much sometimes. Nothing is that important

"There's Something in the Barn" (2023)

If you liked "Trollhunter" ('11), or "Rare Exports" ('10) this is the holiday appropriate film for you. While it may not be as unhinged as "Unwelcome" ('24) it's thematically similar. Norwegian fae folk clashing with a new family that just moved in. Fun

If you don't want all that AI garbage at the top of your google search results, you can stick -ai at the end of your search term and you'll get just the list of links to websites like in the good old days. Yesterday I learned. #AI #Google

Fresh baked blueberry muffins just aren't as good without the baked sugar crust topping

"Warlock: The Armageddon" (1993)
The OG of the spiritual Armageddon films. Starring, one of my early crushes, Julian Sands. Not necessarily a follow up to the original film, more like a continuation. But holy moly, I forgot how gory this film was. I'm not sure if I should applaud the FX crew or not

"A Very Pagan Christmas" (2024)
An unhinged look at the origins of X-mas traditions, narrated by AI, with visuals by Midjourney. You're in for a treat with not only too little or too many fingers, things on fire that shouldn't be, and other AI shenanigans such as folx heads' dropping off. Fun 4 all

I think I could be considered a loud person these days. I project. I enunciate. After a lifetime of being told "I didn't hear you" on the occasions my anxiety let me speak. Of being talked over. Or ignored. Just one way living as a guy has changed me. And everyone remembers my name, for good or bad

As I sit on the sofa, trying not to move too much due to an over stressed back I reflect:

I really wish I would have had better boundaries with my work life, insofar as how I physically pushed myself for a paycheck. For jobs that could have cared less if I was there or not. Just another body

"Cannibal Mukbang" (2025)
I went in to this thinking it would be a playful romp with glossy k*lls & a tongue in cheek ref to online culture. Which it was....but. Instead I got a manic pixie dream girl crossed with the Metoo movement's red right hand. Supposedly "comedy-horror". I didn't see that

Got that health insurance situation sorted in a fashion that doesn't require:

A new job (either for income, or for bennies. Either/ or)

Or general despair because I can't pay the monthly premium

I have no idea what the future holds, but at least this is, for now, sorted

Today's current hyperfocus: properly making Turkish Delight candies

Two gens down, almost got it. Will regroup & try again tomorrow

"Good Boy" (2025)
Not to be confused by the other two movies of the same name (one is for families, the other....not). A very gore free film that portrays the horror of being a dog witnessing the creepiness their person only gets a bare glimpse of. Bundle up with your furry one and enjoy!
