Oh nice, Ar tonelico has something like that too! A bar that starts green but turns progressively more red as you move through an area, with encounter rates increasing the redder it gets and then resetting after an encounter. It's quite nice

resulting in being irreparably underleveled by the endgame. But Symphonia allowed me to mentally prepare for battles, and as a direct result I was much less averse to random encounters in FFX and similar. (Coming back to FFX as an adult and curbstomping that boss was cathartic, I tell you.)
