"If there's a bright center to the universe, then I'm on the planet farthest from it".
Found this old pic on my PC and was reminded that those in the northern hemisphere will be coming into spring. Remember to do your basic maintainance before you set off for your first ride of the year. Everybody loves spring, right?
Enjoy.

This is a cat I knew once. I knew her as Eartha Kitten.
She would come around for pats, and food when it was on offer. She brought me a rat once. I declined so she sat in my living room and ate it like jerky while looking straight at me.
She got hit by a car and died.
Cars save wildlife🦜. Who knew?

A flying insect of some description, taking a break on a paper daisy.

I'm running low on pictures to post. If this keeps up I'll have to leave my room to take more.
I'm not sure you understand the position that puts me in.

Oh, and here's a picture of the only ones cheering the aftermath of christmass.

Here's another beautiful little flower that I don't know the name of. I found it on a walk and thought it quite quaint.

I don't know what these little flowers are. But I do appreciate their showy perfection.

These are native Australian Paper Wasps. Unlike their introduced European cousins they are less aggressive and keep many garden pests under control.
I've always welcomed them into the gardens I've tended.

Senecio Elegans (Purple Ragwort) is an invasive species from South Africa.

Pimelea ferruginea (the Pink Rice flower). Coastal heath. South west, Western Australia.

Crabs. Successfully inhabiting the inter-tidal zones of every major land mass for millions of years were easy prey for the omnivorous, thumbed monkeys with their tools and their fire, as they migrated their way around the rim of the Indian Ocean.

Chamaescilla corymbosa or 'Blue Stars' pop up everywhere in the spring across southern Australia.

The Lord of the Rings.
I felt it was masterful story building but woeful storytelling. The world had great detail but the characters were wooden and flat with simplistic drives. I got a lot more out of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. Same story, throw a real person in there. Mock me if you must.

Thysanotus tuberosus The common fringed lily.
A perennial herb, these tiny flowers only last a day and then they are gone. yolo, be beautifull.

Western Australia is sometimes called the Sunset Coast but mostly by ad agencies wanting to sell you something.

The trick is to be content within yourself.
Just stop buying things.
Just stop.
It's killing us.
December 11, 2024 at 2:09 AM
No idea what these are. But they look amazing. More coastal heath in the south west.

The news is starting to get me down again. Hope you're all doing well where you are.

Rainbow Lorikeets are an introduced species here in Western Australia after their accidental release during the sixties. Farmers and orchardists consider them a pest as their large flocks can strip fruit trees and crops in short order. They also out compete other native species for nesting sites.

Pigface.
No, not you. Carpobrotus.
Pigface is a succulent quite common in the sandy soils along Southern Australia (but also South Africa and coastal Chile).
December 7, 2024 at 12:53 AM
Coastal heath, South West Australia (cloudy day, sorry about the exposure).
Flowers may be a variety of Scaevola aemula but that's just a guess.
December 6, 2024 at 3:54 AM
Some pink flowers. They are all over. I don't know if they are native or introduced but they do seem to thrive here so ... there's that.

I'm running out of photos to post.
Don't make me go outside and take more. I don't like it out there.

The Pink Fairy Orchid (Caladenia latifolia).
Found across Australia this beautiful little flower pops up for a few weeks in spring, then like the rest of the Australian orchids reverts to a few indistinguishable strappy leaves for the rest of the year.

The Donkey Orchid.
These orchids occur throughout Australia with many varieties. This is one from the Perth region.
December 3, 2024 at 1:35 AM
The Cowslip orchard (Caladenia flava) found throughout the south west of western Australia. These tiny native orchards (around 3cm) only show in late winter early spring and can be easily missed.
