A stark juxtaposition on BBC radio 4 this morning, with news of relatives searching for loved ones disappeared into the Syrian Gulag next to discussion of how to "smash the smuggling gangs". Objective of UK & EU policy was to conspire to make it as hard as possible for people to escape persecution.
