"artists should charge more!" then pay them. Do comission them. tip them what u think they're worth.

Artists wont believe they are worth money until u give it to them. They know what it's like to not have much, & hope everyone can afford their art. SHOW them they CAN ask more. Don't just Tell them.

10 years of uploading Remembering Gale! There is a lot I could say about the change in our community, the publishing scene, and our views on the comic after 10 years of working on it, but I also think its not the time. But I sure have other things to say.
Thanks for sticking with us!

10 years ago we started uploading Remembering Gale. 10 years have passed. We wanted to be done by now, but that promise was made 10 years ago, and things happened. A lot of things happened. Not just in our personal life, but globally. Everyone is aware of it. Everytime something shifts and gets worse, I vividly remember an encounter we had on our first bookfair. A person, full of negativity, who didn't want to believe we will finish this comic. Because it takes so long. Because you can never know what happens. And I guess, she was right, in a few things. You never know what happens. She listed a few things, terrible things. Apart from "a meteor or plane will crash in your house" everything happened. But I also remember Mim who always answered with utmost conviction "we will keep drawing". And we did.

The world is a terrible place right now.
It's also one of the many reasons Remembering Gale is not finished yet. Because like every other human with a spark of empathy, we are suffering. We don't know what to do. We suffer, not as much as the people on the front line of misery, but still, a part in us bleeds with them. I see lots of people around me try to hide themselves in escapism. I also see how dull their emotions get for others. It’s the thing I fear the most, but I also noticed it over the years with the audience of media. Empathy decreases. Media Literacy decreases. Nuance is dying. There is only black and white, good and evil. There is no room for growth, and no forgiving for mistakes. But the thing is, growing as a human being, is learning from mistakes.

The world is a terrible place right now.
If something truly shattered me, and at the same time put me back together, every single day, it’s the last 10 years. Some may say it radicalized me. Maybe thats true. But I'm glad it did. It hurts me, daily. Sometimes I sit in front of that empty paper that should be a new page of Remembering Gale, asking myself "what the fuck am I doing here, drawing your silly little drawings". Its hard, most of the times, because my brain is tired. Like everyones, who still has a spark of empathy.
I try creating for that spark.

Because, if the world is a terrible place, it's on us to make it better. Remembering Gale is a silly little comic, and lots of people think, drawing silly little comics is a waste of time. I think so too, sometimes. But then I think of myself, how I find hope and strength in stories others created. And if a silly little comic about some high school boys gets some people to feel some empathy, or hope, or joy, it’s worth the work. Remembering Gale is about grief, but also love, and finding yourself in a mess, that is life. Its about making mistakes and dragging yourself out of it.
The world is a terrible place right now. But it’s equally beautiful.
To say „I hate people", because of their atrocities, also means to hate all others that are being kind. People who want change. People who just want to live a happy life. People who cry for others they have never met. People who get hit and arrested and killed by forces for speaking up. People who fill lentils in empty coke bottles, throwing them into the sea, in hope it will find the ones who starve.
And then it happens.

If destruction is rampant in this world, the only answer to that should be creation. Create a bond to other people. Create solidarity by speaking up for those who can't. Create hope, by being kind, in the midst of darkness. Create silly little drawings, silly little comics, silly little poems that touch peoples hearts.
Thank you for sticking with us, for so long, and even longer.
Because as Mim said 10 years ago: We will keep drawing.
