A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

Hey, thanks @stanfordenergy.bsky.social! You could say some good ideas took root back in the halls of Y2E2 and the Haas Center...

Queuing up my holiday reading!
I hear everyone is talking about utility bills being too damn high. But @clicabedu.bsky.social is like, *really* talking about it.

And we have ideas to help fix it.

New report, friends, hot off the presses!

A once-in-a-generation investment that benefits everyone in our state.

Today, I’m proud to sign the Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act into law.

Our new regional authority will modernize Illinois’ transit systems — and we’re doing it with no new statewide taxes.

Today, @govpritzker.illinois.gov signed into law the Northeastern Illinois Transit Authority Act. This establishes a new transit authority for the Chicago region (NITA), increases state funding for transit by $1.5 billion, and puts IL on the path for a zero carbon transportation system.

AND guess what? In this case, the conservative billionaire $ didn't win the race, because residents of this small suburb showed up and voted. As a result, those voters had a huge impact not just on clean power in their town, but on emissions in the country more broadly.

Every day, I am motivated to go to work at @climatecabinet.org because in state and local politics, true climate solutions are achievable. And we're getting it done.

Thanks @whitneybauck.bsky.social @theguardian.com for this great spotlight on the critical importance of local climate leadership.
Want to feel hopeful about climate action? Look to local politics.

75% of the commitments that the US made at the Paris climate agreement can be reached entirely without federal support.

LOOK AT THIS TOOL

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH I NEEDED THIS TOOL WHEN I WAS POLICY DIRECTOR AT A STATE ENERGY AGENCY

LOOK AT IT

YOU CAN HAVE DIFFERENT, NEW PROBLEMS THAN I DID! NO MORE OLD PROBLEMS! ONLY INFORMATION!
You can use this new tool to answer questions like:

“What kinds of Climate Risk & Adaptation bills were intro'ed in AZ last year?”

“Which bills in MI's most recent session focused on Building Electrification?”

“Did IL pass any ESG laws in 2025?”

One thing I love about @climatecabinet.org's moneyball approach is that, in an age of billionaire oligarchs, it is inherently small-d democratic.

As @emmafisher.bsky.social says here, "Smaller contributions can make a meaningful difference to level the playing field with fossil fuel money."

1. Cars are the biggest source of climate pollution in the country.

2. Transportation is the biggest household expense after rent/mortgage.

2. State and local gov't could cut these numbers by about 25% in five years without any federal policy.

Somebody solve this for me, what should we do? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The actual secret to why I know stuff is that I ask a question any time I don’t understand literally anything. I don’t care how simple it is. Anybody who makes fun of you for asking a simple question likely doesn’t know the answer either

They did do it btw.
Right now, Congress is debating pulling back on the electric vehicle and charging infrastructure and clean energy policies in the Inflation Reduction Act. Doing so is of course bad for the climate. But gutting the IRA will raise electricity prices and directly harm US national security. Don’t do it.
