'God's justice' decided last night's African Cup of Nations final, apparently. Was lively in my neighbourhood, fireworks until 1am 😴

Highly recommend the Berthe Weill expo at the Orangerie, life story of a fantastic forgotten woman and a real 'all star' collection of modernist paintings from 20th Century artists

The days of surprise winter sunshine are, imho, Paris' best days 😎

My parcel is apparently not only waiting for me, but waiting a well-behaved/patient fashion . . .

To quote In Bruges 'it's a fucking inanimate object'!

So cheering when the mimosa arrives in French florists every January. It's like a little message from spring going 'don't worry, I didn't forget you' 😎

This 🇫🇷 man is putting his retirement to good use . . .

So sad that there won't be cows at this year's Paris Salon de l'Agriculture, the best bit of the event (in addition to the incredible selection of French cheeses/sausage/wine and the drunk French farmers)

Here are some of my favourite beasts from previous years 🐄🐮🐂

Er, what? Has this author found a portal to the 1950s??

In 2024 official figures showed 1.62 children per woman, representing France's lowest birth rate in the post-World War II period.

Having 5 children is definitely unusual in France, as in the rest of western Europe!

A presque parfait day in Paris - lunch at Pierre Sang in Oberkampf then watching the magnificent Castres Olympique in action 😊

(Perfect would have been 5C warmer and a CO win)

Last year I learned that the French refer to table tennis players as 'les pongistes' and this year I learn that International table tennis day is 'La journée mondial du ping' and 🤯

Neat juxtaposition of headlines showing the 2 sides of Brigitte Bardot - a lot of campaigning for animal rights and a well-documented history of far-right views

🇫🇷🎄 book list
Memoir of a man who staged the coolest Olympics ever?
Or memoir of a self-aggrandising little weasel who spent 20 days in jail after being correctly convicted of corruption?
Tough choice . . .

Street art, but make it philosophy too

Is 'faire le pont' important in 🇫🇷 culture, you ask?

One year ago I was writing this . . . this week we have another make-or-break week in 🇫🇷 parliament with a key vote over the budget. Déja vù all over again!

Leaving this on a colleague's desk - so they get excited that there are biscuits and then realise that it's just an empty box - should be a matter for The Hague

Forget Spotify Wrapped, today it's all about SNCF's 🇫🇷 train 'rétrainspective' 🚂
(and it doesn't make impertinent comments about your age)

Is 🇫🇷 rugby excited about the return of Antoine Dupont? Somewhat!
(Not sure how the people of Toulouse feel about being depicted as some sort of Medieval peasants)

Yes, 😴
Part of a long-running series that parodies the racist Great Replacement Theory by suggesting other things or people that could be replaced
