Refugee from the Bad Place. Hoping this place doesn't end up the same.
6) Hands off: Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun (2025) - Pure filth. Classy, but only really tolerable if drinking through it when fanservice happens. Somehow this has a sequel hook at the end.

I don't think it's that classy, I mean it was basically one bath scene and one scene where the main girl bends down in front of a high school boy. I was just expecting pure healing type vibes.

5) Ran (1985) - Finally a version of King Lear I can appreciate. There's lots of death and one crazy woman who burns everything down. Artistically every shot seems perfectly constructed in a way Kurosawa could only do.

4) Hoop Dreams (1994) - I don't get the nostalgia for the late-80s/early-90s time period this is set in. It's just a non-judgemental look at a couple of high school kids trying to escape their circumstances through basketball and their families. Just kind of sucks how it turned out for everyone.

3) The Shining (1980) - Pretty good even if the key portions of this film have been shown to death. It's crazy in a way that most Kubrick films were.

2) To Be or Not to Be (1942) - This script had to be thrown together quickly as all WW2 propaganda was, but it's fine? So this farce is about Polish actors making a mockery of high level Nazi officials with a subplot about how the mediocre protagonist of the film has to deal with his joke marriage.

1) Seven Samurai (1954) - Surprised I had never seen this until now. I liked this film even if it wasn't perfect. The story could've been a bit tighter, but it's still good. The cinematic elements are almost modern, at least until everyone forgot how to light a scene.
