The Surfer was not what I expected 😂 but when I realized it was the same director as vivarium my expectations shifted. If, like me, you enjoy deeply uncomfortable movies with ambiguous endings and no clear resolution , it’s definitely worth your time

Oh I absolutely agree with that. But his entry into the world is more as someone in love with a revolutionary than in love with revolution and there’s some resentment there that invites reflection

The difference between Bob and all the other revolutionaries in the film is that he’s particularly aggrieved by his circumstances. I think it highlights the fact that for the poc in the movie, revolution is existential and community is a necessity but for him it’s just something that happened to him

The selfie from One Battle After Another makes me think of Kung Fu Hustle, and one of my favorite archetypes, the sloppy hidden master, overlooked old revolutionaries who remember—well, sort of—the moves.
