I absolutely love a cloudy day. Overcast with a swirling, three digit millibar has me feeling, momentarily, like less of an alien on my own planet.

This is why, beyond the dishonesty of it, I won’t be cajoled into performative politeness by people who don’t actually care what you think and simply want to censor what you say. To be clear, refusing performative politeness - e.g., “bless his family” is not the same as being a racist piece of shit.
A graph of Google searches for Kirk's name shows that most people were not familiar with the guy before his death, and have quickly moved on.

Buddy…that’s just fascism. Support conditioned on a desire to eradicate conflicting ideas by any means necessary, including by relinquishing your own rights and freedoms, is literally built into the model.

A recently released study found that two thirds of Americans rated the food at my last corporate event as “2 - Below Average”

If Trump and MAGA are proud of being fascists, or Christian white nationalists, or whatever evil namesake they prefer most, why does the entire universe of American media still affirmatively choose to gaslight us?

Bait me. Make it flashy. I don’t care. Just call a thing a thing. What are we doing.

This came to mind for me as well

Trump has always been and will continue to be a useful idiot whose ineptitude serves as a bumbling shield for the calculated destruction of American public service and government institutions. When you privatize everything, those with the most money own, control, and manage access to everything.
emrazz.bsky.social
Trump can get away with it because his base doesn’t care and liberals think he’s a bad businessman, which he objectively is, (a good reason why he of all people should not try to run the government as one). But the money backing the right wing machine is not bad at business. They know the outcome.

If you’ve ever worked for a large company (or a badly managed one of any size) and especially if your employer has been acquired by PE, this article will resonate. There is only so much you can pull out of a system before it stops functioning. 60% of parts does not run an engine at 60%.
National Weather Service at ‘breaking point’ as storm approaches
The National Weather Service is struggling to maintain its forecasting operations due to significant staffing cuts under the Trump administration.
www.washingtonpost.com
emrazz.bsky.social
The NWS, along with most other prime DOGE targets - government agencies designed to prevent Americans from dying and feed robust public institutional data to adjacent markets like insurance, housing, and finance - is feeling the strain of trying to run an institution using a corporate profit model.
John Sokich, who worked for the Weather Service for 45 years before retiring in January, said the agency is, "unfortunately, incredibly adept" at keeping its forecasts and warnings going in strained circumstances. Still, he compared the Weather Service these days to a sprinter forced to extend an all-out race from 200 yards to a mile.
"They're going to run out of gas," Sokich said.
"They're going to start missing things. They can't sustain that level of effort for much longer. You just can't sprint a mile."

Other than the science free nature of it all, perhaps the least surprising part of the admin’s new claim is the onus it puts on pregnant women. Dying of fever? Deal with it. In severe pain? Deal with it. Child has autism? It’s because you were weak, and if you say it wasn’t, you’re a liar. We know.

"Charlie's death was not just a murder. The true word for what Charlie did is 'sacrifice.' ...Charlie Kirk died for all of you. And Charlie's sacrifice means that Charlie Kirk will live forever ...for all future generations of Americans."

I'm sorry, are we going full Kirkian Atonement Theory?

Overturning the actual malice standard = any person who speaks up about being sexually assaulted by a public figure will be sued for speaking up by very rich and powerful people.

This lawsuit is asking to be a vehicle for overturning NYT v. Sullivan (which established the actual malice we know and love for public figures).

It is a request to overturn longstanding precedent that allows us to criticize our politicians and remove our free speech.

So this Trump lawsuit is wacko for many, many reasons, but THIS IS NOT WHAT ACTUAL MALICE MEANS in the legal context. At all.
Defendants’ Actual Malice Towards President Trump
107. Defendants each desire for President Trump fail politically and
financially. Each feels actual malice towards President Trump in the colloquial
sense: that is, each—Craig, Buettner, Baker, and Schmidt, as individuals, and the
Times and Penguin’s relevant executives as corporations—subjectively wishes to
harm President Trump, and each wish to manipulate public opinion to President
Trump’s disadvantage to worsen his current and future political and economic
prospects. Put bluntly, Defendants baselessly hate President Trump in a deranged
way.

Online trads going to church for the first time and finding out it's not an IRL version of their personal Based internet club always cracks me up

Good morning. I went to church today for the first time in a couple of months. I was sad that the name of Charlie Kirk was not mentioned a single time. Other tragedies were mentioned. But at this particular Catholic church, nothing about Charlie.

What were they afraid of?

My church didn't mention Charlie Kirk or even "pray for our country". They did ask me for more money. I'm devastated.

Church was packed this morning. The pastor delivered a canned sermon that could have been written last year. My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

You’re entitled to be whomever you choose, but you added moral guidance to your comment (“speaking clearly can be effective without being mean”) and that’s where you’re wrong - both about what is effective and about what is mean.

Im begging you to understand that refusing to have sympathy for bad people is not actually hateful at all.

Please watch this from Cy Canterel. I’m not a tik tokker either, just watch it in your browser. Pretending this is all just obscure internet subculture is the biggest mistake we continue to make, and a few of us have been saying this for years. I’m not mad at the mistake. Just stop making it.
