I've seen John have to stop and engage with lots of eejits he would never agree with. If he had an arranged meeting with them or was making supportive statements I'd feel differently but this is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Because that's the type of person he is. Stops to listen to views even if he doesn't agree with them.
