My brother is a disabled vet who works as security-clearanced govt contractor. He has already been to his bank (USA Military Credit Union) to secure a zero-interest loan. Because a govt shutdown means no salary, no disability, and no VA. He's been thru shutdowns before & this time he's ready.

I know. And it is lamentable. As a former journalist, it is also very disheartening to see the purpose of local news – to inform – be completely lost. The only thing I read the D&C for anymore is Tracy Schumacher columns & obituaries.

There were bar patrons on the sidewalk. Fireman. Business owners. People waiting at the train station. Plenty of people to interview. But please, let me know how the fall foliage is progressing, like I can't look outside & see for myself.
