We at Bear Den Hosting agree that AI should be referred to with terms no less than "evil."

It is strictly designed to destroy everything that makes us alive and replace it with a banality that forever destroys creativity, hope, and love.

It is purely evil and serves no legitimate purpose.
i'm tired of calling Gen AI "unethical"

Evil. Evil is the word I want to use. It pries people even further apart from each other in a lonliness epidemic. It makes the brain weaker, therefore, easier to take advantage of. Billionaires are funding it for 'THEIR' benefit. Not anyone else's.

This is for a good cause, folks. Anything can help.

Additionally: For those who donate $10 or more, Bear Den Hosting will offer 3 months of access to our private cloud with email ($30 value) - just send a picture of the confirmation to us in an email to [email protected] and we'll be in touch!
Some clients of mine are in a really tough situation and trying to make sure their two very young children are still able to have a Merry Christmas. Please help if you can, or spread the word if you can't. All funds will go straight to the parents, my firm is just organizing. gofund.me/56e34ba9f

So there's a draft House version of KOSA out.

We are glad to report that we are not bound by any of the provisions of KOSA due to section (2)(4)E). We do not collect any personal information of our users on any service and thus cannot use it to advertise, market, or make content recommendations.

Not for nothing, but we offer an email service at bear-den.org that you, yes YOU, can sign up for and get away from this AI scraping madness! Just see bear-den.org or contact us for details; yes, there IS a free option if you ask!

I will also note that in Section 9, the Education section, Canva admits that they will give student data to groups like OpenAI, Atlassian, AWS, and others.

This is a REALLY bad acquisition for people who were looking to bail from Adobe.

At Bear Den Hosting, we believe that to have a healthy Internet, each component's operators must act as a force for good, not neutrality.

To that end, in addition to blocking all of Facebook ("Meta"), Twitter/X, Gab, and Truth Social, we are now blocking the Grokipedia and Groktube domains as well.

Hey so yeah.

Developers. I'd like you to meet something. It's called "chroot" - "CHange ROOT directory".

You know. That thing that ACTUALLY, unlike Docker/K8s/etc., works properly to create isolated environments for testing and deployment?

Maybe try using it. It won't hurt you.

I have to admit, my back is to the wall, and I have my partner and four animals who are depending on me. I need help - and this time, I am going to ask.

If anyone has anything they can spare, I am looking for help covering shelter, utilities, and bills.

Please. ❤️

Well that's neat.

Got the Affinity suite (Photo, Designer, Publisher) to run under Linux Mint using Lutris and the information at github.com/Twig6943/Aff...

The folks behind this have absolutely streamlined it compared to where it was last year, and it seems to Just Work.

Screenshot for proof.

As a notice to clients: Due to factors involving one of our domain registrars and their increasingly concerning communications, we are migrating all registrations and DNS over to @porkbun.com.

This should have zero impact on the client side but PLEASE contact us immediately if you see any issues.

Burnout sucks man. At the point where I don't want to do anything. No decent games around, any project Im working on just feels like its not going anywhere and is at a dead end. Find my self just sitting at my desk doing nothing more and more recently.

Any suggestions?

Hey @oraclesenclave.com @envexus.net

Also for anyone following this sort of thing. Not that Discord was a paragon of quality, but it's going to get worse and fast, sadly.

Please focus on preserving your communities.

The CVE database funding may, if sources are correct, have had its funding termination reversed.

I highly recommend following this as well as following the progress of the CVE Foundation, to break away from government funding.

Hey @flashfennec.bsky.social @kathryntewson.bsky.social @oraclesenclave.com @envexus.net - This is what you might call "incredibly bad."

All y'all remember the security confusion of the 90s?

As sad as it is, I look forward to the day that someone using AI to write code pushes it to production with a truck sized security hole so that people start shoving back against its use at all.

AI is not and will never be "inevitable" as long as people have the morals to say "no" to its use.

I run Bear Den Hosting and am always more than happy to be a great source for web, email, private cloud, and even some custom server hosting! ❤️
I submit that you could do worse than making a neocities.org website as your internet homebase/link repository.

Beginning the process of bringing Bear Den Hosting's hardware in-house (literally) by converting some of my home into a small single rack solution.

I am very excited about this. I've been wanting to do this for two+ decades and now I have a secure place to do so rather than renting the hardware.
