You know what was weird last week? I didn’t see anyone fired for quoting words actually spoken by Jane Goodall.

Simply reducing beef and lamb consumption to one serving a week -- as recommended by EAT-Lancet -- could reduce emissions by almost 3 billion tons CO2-eq. The equivalent of all of Russia's annual emissions.

OMB dir Russell Vought crowed that DOE cancelled clean energy grants in 16 states
Not included in Vought's list: Any of the 31 states that his boss won in 2024
Probability of that being an 'accident':
19!34!/50!3! = 3.93 x 10(-10) = .000000000393

Trump admin targets blue-state grants meant to ease US electricity…
But red states will also suffer from the rollback of billions in funding to help bring cheaper, more reliable power to regions across the country.

For red meat in particular, on health grounds, almost ALL of the world eats too much.

The ONLY region that doesn't eat enough is South Asia.

"If the populations of high- and mid-income countries were to limit beef & lamb consumption to about one serving/wk, they could reduce emissions = to Russia’s annual emissions total."
@enviroem.bsky.social

⬆️ THIS is the recommendation outlined in the EAT-Lancet report, are you in?

A recipe for avoiding 15 million deaths a year and climate disaster is fixing food, scientists say
Scientists are presenting new evidence that the worst effects of climate change can’t be avoided without a major transformation of food systems.

My colleague, Emily Cassidy, @enviroem.bsky.social says it well:

“if the populations of high- and middle-income countries were to limit beef and lamb consumption to about one serving a week, as recommended in this latest EAT-Lancet report, they could reduce emissions equal to Russia’s emissions…”

A deep dive on high-impact #ClimateAction from #BBC! As I told Jocelyn Timperley, "Hopefully people going through the jointheshift.earth guide will have a bit of an aha moment, realising, 'wait a minute, I have more power than I thought, and there's more that I can do'."

Exactly. Your tofu is not driving deforestation in the Amazon. If anything, eating more soy products directly (and eating fewer animals that eat soy as feed) would *reduce* overall demand for soybeans and pressure on tropical forests.

Cropland area nearly doubled in South America between 2000 and 2019 - the largest relative increase in the world. Soybean production replaced rainforests, grasslands & savannas. earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/14962... As China refuses U.S. soybeans, this puts more pressure on natural ecosystems.
The Spread of Soy in South America
Grasslands, savannas, and dry forests have become popular places to grow soy.
