Archer Class scouts Hengist (1888) and Horse (1889) were both centrepieces in one of the most dramatic incidents of the Acamar Crisis, when they performed an atmospheric run over the planet to make sensor scans of Klingon military facilities and Long Range Interspatial Missile Sites.

"Vulcans! If only the rest of the galaxy worked the way they think it does! If it were true, the Klingons would surrender just to avoid the endless lectures."

Standing over the President are Admirals Rittenhouse (L) and Shukar (R). Rittenhouse, despite technical demotion to head of Starfleet Tactical, still wielded immense influence over Starfleet at its highest levels.

To her right is Starfleet Chief of Staff Sydney Javas. As JAG she oversaw Chin-Riley v. Starfleet, which marked many in the civilian government against her for her strict interpretation of Augment civil liberties.

President Wescott (R) is flanked by Defence Commissioner Christen Paris (L). Formerly a Starfleet Admiral, Paris was brought in after the Rimbor Engagement to reassure Starfleet and the conservative Charterites that Wescott was committed to stronger defence commitments.

"The Organian Peace Treaty was not written by an Organian, cannot be described as a Treaty and certainly does nothing to promote "Peace". Its main purpose appears to have been to keep us kids from playing the war game on the old folk's front lawn." - Admiral Harry Morrow, 2275

"What are Sarek's politics? Simple.

If you're Vulcan, he's a dangerous radical.
If you're a Charterite, he's a simpering moderate.
If you're an Archerite, he's a meddlesome interventionist.
If you're a Unionist, he's a damned Sevrinite pacifist.
And if you're Wescott, he's a bloody nuisance."

Zym, son of T'ai, 2269. Zym - State Advisor, Warden of the First City and Treasurer to Chancellors L'Rell, Sturka and Kesh - was the intellectual power behind the Sturkan period of Governance, even if he opposed many of it's most notorious acts.

The choice of the type 904 rifle - an outgrowth of the eponymous type 903 disruptor pistol only used by the army - is another sign of how the artist has blended to two services together into one identifable persona.

The inclusion of the bedroll may have been sufficiently proletarian for the artists, but the hilt of the soldiers' blade - likely a tajtiq, "long blade" - is a signifier of a working man: the tajtiq is more commonly used as a farming tool than as a duellists' weapon.

The uniform is largely that of the Imperial Navy and Marines, with the iconic Black-Grey tunic, armoured vest and bronze breeches. The Army-issue bedroll lends a certain proletarian attitude, while an alternative iteration included the Army Soj'mIv (forage cap) as well.

The artist's decision to depict the "ideal warrior"as a Quch'Ha is indicative of the cultural shifts of the 2260s away from the hyper-traditionalism of the 2250s. The cropped and styled hair - popularised by the "Party Men", supporters of Sturka in the early 60s, also carries political significance.

"Son of the Empire" - Unknown Propaganda Artist, 2266

This iconic portrait, completed in a neo-terran realist style, is symbolic of the ideals of the New Klingon Warrior of the 2260s. He carries the Imperial banner forward, armed with the weapons of the past (the blade) and the future (the rifle.)

Though less known than the glamourus B'Rel class ships or raiding frigates like the Dupat and D2 'Stingtongue', these destroyers served for longer than both the latter types, with late build ED-S1's still in service with the KDF as late as the early 2340s.

visible towards the rear are the two types of Klingon "Fleet Destroyer", the C-2/Q-4 and ES-A2/ED-S1 types. Built as Scout or Destroyer types, these competing equivalents to the Saladin/Hermes and Larson were the mainstay of Imperial Fleet formations well into the 2280s.

The D8, unlike the D10, was an uncommon sight on the Federation border: while designed and constructed in large numbers between the 2240s and early 60s, it's poor performance in the Triangle saw it relegated to secondary fronts after the Organian War.

Beyond the typical D7 battlecruisers, we can also see some lesser known cruisers, including (from L-R) two D4-E light cruisers, an L-13 frigate, 2 D8 "medium" cruisers, and the D10 "heavy" or Line cruiser.

Visible are the B1, D9 and B2 capital ships, each representing three different schools of Imperial battleship design philosophy, but united by their combination of overwhelming firepower and inadequate operational range.

"It is hard to reconcile the Klingon Empire of Gallant Opera, honour codes and Bloodwine with the cold, sober and arbitrary violence of the Sturkan Regime. And yet, both are borne from the same fruit." - Siobhan Tilly
