While others look inward, the EU continues to look outward, reflecting our values of open and free trade. The next essential step is smooth and swift ratification to secure increased trade, competitiveness, jobs, and long-term prosperity for Europe when we need it most.

We expect the EU-Mercosur Agreement to be ready to be signed next week, and I believe that the signature should be a reason for satisfaction. This is a strategic agreement for Europe, which allows us to diversify our trade relations and strengthen our autonomy. It is a unique economic opportunity.

This is an EPP victory. The Commission's move comes after our persistent political pressure. For months, we have demanded that European farmers must not face new challenges alone.

While the agreement already includes carefully calibrated quotas for sensitive products, this additional clause ensures even stricter monitoring of agri-trade by the European Commission.
