Very nice surprise on my doorstep last night: @mackeza.bsky.social's new book Super Nintendo. Extra surprised because I forgot I'd pre-ordered a copy from Waterstones (having more recently pre-ordered the audiobook) and also because the book isn't out for another week!

I wonder what happened in the US in January 2025 which caused the measles cases by week to rocket upwards... 🤔

@qntm.org This book was recommended on this week's The Besties podcast, think it might be in your wheelhouse thebesties.substack.com/p/terminator...

One day into 2026 and already taking advantage of National Trust membership, and escaping from the detritus of Christmas

An example of how the Ai integration in a Google search is ruining the results. While I usually skip by the "AI overview", here it has taken my search for a particular Formula E event, matched it with a *different* event, and then given me search results for that, making my search useless.

Arriving just before Christmas were two physical @blueprincegame.bsky.social major keys, purchased from @iam8bit.com - excellent recreations of the garage keys and the prism key, but I'll explain neither for risk of spoilers!

Leave me alone, Fitbit, it's Christmas!

I think you're about 20 years late, Amazon.

I don't know what's worse; that LEGO shipped an expensive set with an embarrassing typo, or this wonky sticker placement by a person pointing it out.

One of the presents was this LEGO arcade machine, which my wife said makes up for the lack of Dirigiblocks in the game (your turn next @dogubomb.bsky.social!)

It started with an "allowance" in an envelope, then the hallway box, on to the parlour (with a real three box puzzle to solve!), the "music room" with my car keys as the major key, an upgrade disk in the boot of my car, a safe, and eventually the key to the garage where my presents were located.

My amazing and creative wife set up a fantastic @blueprincegame.bsky.social trail for my birthday this morning to retrieve my presents 🤓

Sorted. You can't do this in every level but wasn't tricky to find one I could. Sadly that does mean I'm now completely done with this excellent game.

18.5 hours across well over 100 levels and somehow I managed not to fill an entire grid once and get this last achievement in Spooky Express.

Issue 5 of the @apwot.bsky.social has arrived! Another excellent issue with a range of articles I can't wait to read from @ramiismail.com on flying to @simonparkin.bsky.social on Seaman.and much more. Currently enjoying Ellie Gibson's tale of her PowerWash Simulator world record

My prize copy arrived yesterday! And it's excellent, carrying over the informative humour of the Map Men YouTube channel, with the added benefit of physical maps to look at in front of you. Been sneaking in reads when the children are busy, but not yet found the word "slide"...

Above selection missed the impressive back view complete with the cartridge in the slot and the recreation of the slotted grip.

I enjoyed making the LEGO Game Boy but I'm particularly impressed by the attention to detail, including the power switch at the top and the feel of the buttons. Luckily enough to still have my Game Boy from 1994 for comparison.

The Xbox app has a surprising new definition of Ubisoft games.

Some clever marketing from @zackpolanski.bsky.social parking his van outside the Your Party HQ

Wouldn't normally go in for limited edition controllers or consoles, but some months ago I must have been feeling pretty nostalgic and this fun thing showed up yesterday. Love the original style packaging too!

It is cheaper to buy Metroid Prime 4 on Switch and the Switch 2 upgrade pack separately than the default option of together. Someone at Nintendo can't add up.

Having got a new battery for it earlier this year, I finally got around to getting a new charger for my European launch PSP, so I can celebrate its 20th(!) anniversary. And that means returning to the game I got with it, the wonderful Lumines.
