there are two steps left in the Broadway corridor upzoning (zoning cmte. + city council)

Passing both steps isn’t guaranteed so showing up in SUPPORT on Tuesday is needed to counter those who prefer the status quo

The Gladstone Hotel; then and now. Look at how dense Woodlawn used to be!

It almost got a 20 story addition in the early 30's

Apparently there was once a hotel on the site of the parking lot at 60th and stoney island right across from the soon to open Obama Presidential Center. Would have had unobstructed views of the park. Even had a garage, but that didn't save it from the wrecking ball.

Instead of nostalgia slop of kids consuming 90s video games, it’s nostalgia slop of a troop of multi racial Boy Scouts building a wheelchair ramp in their community while NAFTA gets signed on a TV in the background

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

Which brings us back to my initial question. Do the environmental concerns have any merit? So far we haven't really gotten anywhere on that lol

Hell with the exception of the orange line all of our real heavy public transit infrastructure was simply built because railroad companies bought the land. You could not just do that today

The conversations about all the hypothetical reasons why we should not do this here is novel.

When the south works steel mill was built I think they just did it. And frankly same for 90% of the cityscape we see today. The idea that the entire community needs to come to the table is really new.
ericerins.bsky.social
Well that probably isn’t going to happen
ericerins.bsky.social
I think the fact that we’re having the conversation at all is novel yes
