Just saw #OneBattleAfterAnother. I loved this movie! It’s as if The Dude was reactivated in Trump’s America. One part manifesto, two parts the importance of found family. Hilarious, thrilling, and very touching. I look forward to seeing it again.

Yes, this is laughably false. But it speaks to a larger problem: the splintered and highly partisan news ecology. A hundred influencers are right now editing this quote into videos showing out-of-context riots to juice the algorithm. Hate and division are good for content creators and owners alike.

Trump: Portland is burning to the ground—insurrectionists all over the place. The politicians are afraid for their lives. That’s the only reason they say there’s nothing happening.

And, obviously not the most serious issue, but the ICE goon’s unsecured sidearm falls from his holster and onto the street while he’s focused on being top dog. Incompetence combined with arrogance is going to get people killed.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

"Jones, 27, is among the residents left at 7500 S. South Shore Drive who are trying to piece together what remains after an early morning, high-powered federal immigration raid led to the arrests of dozens of their neighbors at their South Shore apartment building."

Bari Weiss is set to be named the editor in chief of CBS News, the New York Post reports
Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.

Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.

I attended a special screening of @goodcanadianfilm.bsky.social last week, which airs tonight at 8pm on CBC, @cbcgem.bsky.social, and at 9pm on @aptnnews.bsky.social. It does an excellent job showing the systemic policies that have resulted in genocide for First Nations people. Highly recommended.

"Let's see what's out there..." It was 38 years ago today (Sept 28, 1987) that "Encounter at Farpoint" had its premiere broadcast, introducing Capt Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the Enterprise-D. I'm proud to have been a member of the team who made the show at Paramount.

Awarding scientific grants based on scientific merit? That pales in comparison to my strategy, giving grants based on political loyalty

I will admit that my own theory of political change has been informed by historical examples where direct action operated in-person to interrupt the status quo. This makes a persuasive case that Internet politics needs to be taken seriously.
Citarella noted that he's been warning, for more than half a decade, that too many people remain under the mistaken impression that "what happens or the internet isn't real." He added that "the professional commentary class" has been particularly insulated from the power of digital discourse, because "they pay attention to the legacy sources of information, and they're just not having the same media-environment experience as most people in the country.

What is needed, Citarella's strategy suggests, is an understanding of a kind of post-internet politics, where, like it or not, online life is embraced as part and parcel of how modern belief systems are formed.

This AP photo shows the truck that rammed into a Mormon church in Grand Blanc, Michigan before a gunman opened fire.

The truck is draped in American flags. If it carried the flag of any other country, the coverage would scream “terrorism.” Instead, the narrative is: motive unknown.
A fireman carries a fire hose while, behind them, a truck with American flags is seen crashed into a Mormon church.

When I hear pundits claim that Democrats need to sacrifice core values in order to win, I’m reminded of Romanian writer Panait Istrati who toured the USSR in the 1930s. When told “you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs,” he replied: “Yes, I see the broken eggs. But where is the omelette?”

Ta-Nehisi Coates comes away with the stronger, moral position. Klein takes the position that the ends justify the means, and that is simply not true for people living on the margins.

This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...
