Making some things.
I might be a horror writer but I'm also a fantasy writer.
Sovereigns will eventually be a four book dystopian dragon series
Finding the Flame will eventually have a sister, Claiming the Glass
Gallant will eventually be published (November)
And Shadowed Ink is 0.99, a bargain.
Background is red forest, with a dragon shape in the middle.
Two ebooks, Sunset Sovereign, an orange background of mountains with a dragon and a girl, Sunrise Sovereign, a turquoise background of a dragon in mountains with the sun rising.

Text:

Wise teachers know to listen to the voices of the young. And so the Sovereigns proudly bear the names that the children give them, as they trust their guardians, whispering their secrets, learning the mysteries of the world. And so the dragons reign. Background is a coral toned scene where two people in silhouette make a heart shape with their hands.
Book cover is a peach themed princess with dark hair and a fancy gown, making magic with her hands and leaves flow.

The quote: Magic isn't in the castle: it's in the choice. Background is a blue themed forest with grey butterflies and an owl. The cover is Gallant, a blue cover with silver butterflies and flowers.

The quote:

Eliza was just a barmaid, a woman with her life carefully planned -
until a world beyond pulled her into its heart.
Now she stands at the edge of kingdoms,
where light meets shadow, and she must choose as Gallant:
Bianca, the Butterfly Queen, or Sylvanus, the dark Owl King.
In her hands lay the fate of both realms. Blue background in a white frame, a bird in the corner
Cover, shadowed ink, dark blue, a bird of light and a key

Quotes:

An empress, doomed by her blood - A necromancer with a curse - Sable
A man, devoted - Who finds his dream but cannot - Control his curiosity - A locked door - Arlen
Shadowed Ink - A dark fantasy fairytale

Ok, OK I'll fess up.
For me it's the folklore and the urban legend kind. I like to take that resonance, the gravity of the collective fear is what I love, that element of taking the ghosts, respectfully, as a fanfiction, to put them into my stories.
But I do like Matt's ghosts. :D

Listen to the Symposium’s finest vocalist, as their tenor bends the living into unnatural angles and swivels them into the air! Tell us, what ghosts do you prefer? Of the folkloric tradition, or those invented by authors? And why?

Question Three

Art by Jelle Husson, featuring a haunted monastery of many sharp-tipped towers scraping at the midnight sky. The largest is in the centre of the structure’s roof, whose walls are painted white. The monastery is located above a hilly terrain of dark stone and dark green moss. A stony, twisting road leads to the monastery.

It is always a delight to see our violinists perform! How the living bend their splintering bones as they float above us all! Tell us, our ghostly compatriots – which of us are better? Of the folkloric kind? Or invented by our shadowy creators?

There are some good places in Paris. But catacombs are verrrrrrrrry cool :D
erynmccee.bsky.social
The same really, when we hit the millennium!
erynmccee.bsky.social
Correct. All the poetry, the fiction at the time, had that world is ending, so fuck it, quality. And I love that.
erynmccee.bsky.social
It works. I am feeling the late hour today, too!
erynmccee.bsky.social
All the shit, exactly. Make the normal spaces haunted. It's where we all go.
erynmccee.bsky.social
Oh perfect! Now that's an art project. I just love the layers in it. You can tell from a mile off that he was in the middle of the decadent period. Writing his shit, expecting the world to end when the century ended.
erynmccee.bsky.social
I did a stint of research on the Paris catacombs: for erm, harvest purposes, because they grow mushrooms down there nowadays. I was worldbuilding underground. But I can absolutely see ghosts being down there!

#HorrorWritersChat is seriously underway now, eh?

Q2.
I mean, I don't want to see any ghosts, thank you. I'm allergic.
But when it comes to writing, it's always places I know intimately. You'll find ghosts in prisons, in theatres, asylums, abandoned buildings. Wherever the story echoes.
greethewriter.bsky.social
Now, let us begin! Let the flutes bleat and the trumps blare, snatching all the souls of the living away! What are your favourite haunts? Mausoleums? Lavish estates? What secrets do their wraiths protect within?

Question Two

Ah, the performance has begun! Behold the souls of the living darting into the flutes and trumpets! Now, as you sip your ectoplasmic wine, tell us – what are your favourite locations for ghosts? And why?

Damn work, is all I'm saying.
If it helps, after this chat I have to go back to some ghostwriting before bed!
erynmccee.bsky.social
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Veeeeeeeeeeee
erynmccee.bsky.social
It keeps the wind off, too.
erynmccee.bsky.social
Ah Leeds.... Hi Stabby! I mean Gabby!
erynmccee.bsky.social
Visage is face? Or mask, I suppose would work better in this instance. 🤔
erynmccee.bsky.social
I agree. I have loved the book for aeons, and Matthew in Black Cat was heavily influenced by Dorian Grey :D
erynmccee.bsky.social
This is so cool though!
erynmccee.bsky.social
Just keep them closed!
erynmccee.bsky.social
Is that a theme I see before me?

I think, #HorrorWritersChat bods, that my ghostly visage would be that of another excellent bugger, Dorian Grey. Or the author? No, the painting. It's so dastardly demonic, right?
Oh and the name's McConnell. EM. I write the psychological, supernatural, the gothic.

Be welcomed to the ethereal music hall! A stringed aperitif is in order… do tell the Symposium what do you write, from where… and what IS, indeed, your wraithful visage for tonight?

Question One

Come in, come in! The Phantasmal Symposium has just begun! Settle in the ruined music hall, and tell us – what do you write, from where, and in what ghostly visage have you arrived at our askewed doorstep?
