On this day in the history of education, on May 25, 1925, John T. Scopes was indicted for teaching evolution in Tennessee. The case would end on July 21, 1925 with Scopes being found guilty. An appeal would follow. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJoZ...

In 1977, one of the issues ‘left on the table’ at the final meeting of Head Masters Association (later ASCL) in Division XV at Llanwrtyd was N. Stewart’s resolution regarding H.M.A. investments which helped to support the South African Government with its apartheid policy. /1

I will definitely get Nick and Rob's new book from the library when it comes out. I hope it is a fair and balanced assessment of the reforms which worked and those which didn't. Rob's previous polemic was very much historical cherry picking. I have high hopes for this though!

Im reminded of Lord Acton's words on power. Champions of free speech are quick to jetison their 'noble' instincts at the first sniff of power.
We should all be terrified to live in an America where legal residents can be detained, held at gunpoint, or deported because of the color of their skin or because the President disagrees with their views.

Today we are launching our 'No One Left Out' anniversary campaign. A call to build inclusion for the next four decades.

The orchestrated attack of the old band continues. Next up is a Chief Inspector who was tone deaf & presided over the most disastrous period in Ofsted’s history. This stuff is so predictable and just a series of red herrings.

Sir Martyn Oliver references the recommendation in ASCL's Blueprint for a Fairer Education System for a balanced scorecard - but disagrees with our suggestion that schools & colleges should be evaluated as simply having met or not met standards in different aspects of education. #ASCL2025

“The deadly curse of knife crime must be tackled to spare more families the agony of a lost loved one”, says the Daily Mirror. Agreed! But that curse is the outcome of society’s lack of investment in youth clubs, in inclusive education or in any real ambition to break generational poverty.
