2) Can a broadcaster be held responsible for government actions?

To us regular people the differentiation means little to nothing, but if EBU had to defend a ban in a lawsuit, such technicalities could be crucial.

The contest would be the better without Israel, for now at least, but the reality is it's not as straightforward as it was with Russia, and sometimes reality sucks.

2) once Israel's out, who next? It could be a bit of a Pandora's box.
3) if KAN are out of ESC it'll likely fast track their demise, which would be bad for PSB and free media in Israel. EBU's no1 priority is to support PSB.
4) Opposition to Russia was near universal; Israel is very much split.

I've been thinking a lot about this and I reckon there are 4 reasons:
1) the EBU insist they are a non-political union of public broadcasters. Kicking Israel out due to genocide is undoubtedly taking a side, whereas they can say they're not taking a side, even if ppl don't but it.
