And fifth: The Last Dinner Party's From The Pyre. The best new band of 2024 drops any pretense of being a pop group and instead indulges in their classic rock influences, with no drop in quality in their songwriting or performances. "Count The Ways" is the best single they've released yet.

Fourth: Marina's Princess Of Power (the original release, the deluxe edition added nothing special). Best pop album of the year by far, and one of the most emotionally affecting- "Everybody Knows I'm Sad" and "Adult Girl" bring me to tears every time I hear them.

Third place this year goes to Neko Case's Neon Grey Midnight Green. I never really thought she would equal Fox Confessor Brings The Flood or Middle Cyclone, but this record effortlessly surpasses them, and "Winchester Mansion Of Sound" is the best song she's ever written.

But nearly tied with BC,NR for first place: Natalia Lafourcade's Cancionera. Mexico's greatest singer-songwriter delves even deeper into traditional styles with a lush, sprawling mix of instrumentals and collaborations ("Luna Creciente", with Hermanos Gutierrez, is a highlight).

Black Country, New Road: Forever Howlong. One of the most radical reinventions of a band's sound ever, as with the departure of lead singer Isaac Wood the rest of the band took over singing and songwriting duties instead of replacing him. And the result is a masterpiece.

Been a while since I did one of these and it feels wildly inaccurate? Seems to be very strongly based on likes and reposts, there's no way Rowan, Val, and Travis should be that far out from the center. 🤔

I love that this is the result I got, because it's so NOT what anyone would expect from my posts on here.

Wound up with nice armor at the end of this map. 😝

Forgot I changed my look again a few days ago.

Music League put a Tyler Perry soundtrack in my weekly chart, I don't think anything's ever been quite this wildly out of place on one of these before. 😝

I'm sorry, I think you meant to say the BEST album cover ever. 😝

Got an ad for a rewards card and I want to know who actually thinks this sounds like a good deal.

Trying something different for lunch today.

Nice. 😝

And here's the weekly version. The bottom two rows and part of the middle row are entirely from a single Music League playlist.

Did a monthly 5x5 listening chart, obviously slightly inaccurate since I'm still listening to this Dylan album right now but it's as close as I'm going to get without staying up all night. 😝

Someone left this comment on my LastFM profile, and since I'm Old and Out Of It, I need to know: is this a meme? A bit? What's going on here?

Could've sworn I posted this picture the last time I was at B&N but apparently not. Anyway, I'm reading more of this book now.

Didn't get around to making one of those 5x5 charts until just now, so the last 6 hours or so since I got home from work are heavily represented here. Also you can blame Music League for Alex Warren's unexpected return appearance.

So there's a problem here: this isn't what the Icon of Sin looks like in Doom II. Anyone who's played the game knows he's just a wall texture, and you shoot rockets through the hole in the texture's head to hit the "brain" (actually John Romero's head). He doesn't have a body until Doom Eternal!
