I’m not sure it’s so much even an excuse as a way to just make it physically impossible. An excuse is meant to convince someone but they’re not aiming to convince a judge. They’re just hoping the orders Can’t be enforced due to lake of bureaucratic capacity on the part of judges.

”This is not who we are” is basic, incredibly common rhetoric appealing to people’s identity of themselves as good people. People who don’t understand that are being willfully obtuse so they can score internet points for being contrarian.
January 22, 2026 at 2:42 PM
Which is more likely, that this will actually be enforced or that this is some made up unenforceable mumbo jumbo?

What does “twice“ mean? What if I am a vegetable stand already? How many grocers even track that? What does “whole” mean?
January 11, 2026 at 8:19 PM
I’m not sure I agree with that critique but it’s also a critique you could make of a lot of left wing accounts. Usually you see this kind of complaint from more centrist folks.

What’s bizarre is this complaint coming from a left wing angle where he is secretly “anti-anti-Trump”.
December 30, 2025 at 7:05 PM
My rebuttal was that “anti-anti-Trump” is a phrase that describes someone who claims to not support Trump, but also criticizes people who criticize him too much. That is what the phrase means and very obviously does not describe Will. I was only trying to highlight the absurdity of your use of it.
December 30, 2025 at 6:54 PM
So I know your entire thing is to just claim the other party is stupid, that way you can ”win” the argument without actually putting in any real mental effort or thought, but you might consider this is why I tend to trust Will’s thoughts and opinions more than yours.
December 30, 2025 at 6:27 PM
I mean instead of being condescending maybe actually explain the point?
December 30, 2025 at 6:25 PM
So I get that your thing is condescension without explaining but can you explain to me how you’re not just using the phrase to mean close to the opposite of what it actually means?
December 30, 2025 at 6:24 PM
is there an argument here?
December 30, 2025 at 6:23 PM
That reason seems to be that Will Is complaining about Pelosi not being aggressive enough? And so you make up a nonsensical allegation of being anti-anti-Trump?
December 30, 2025 at 6:20 PM
”anti-anti-Trump” has a meaning. You are doing Orwellian torture to it. I don’t see how the complaint doesn’t apply?
December 30, 2025 at 6:19 PM
Basically you know that being “anti-anti-Trump“ is bad so you’re trying to tar Will with it for some reason? But what you’re saying doesn’t make any rational sense if you know what words mean.
December 30, 2025 at 6:10 PM
The phrase exists to describe a specific behavior. What y’all are doing is changing its meaning to… anyone who gives bad strategic advice to Democrats?

This makes the phrase as a descriptor utterly pointless, and as far as I can tell y’all are only trying to use it to score internet points.
December 30, 2025 at 6:10 PM
It’s not an attempt at a gotcha. I’m trying to be clear about how the logic reaches an absurd conclusion. “Anti-anti-Trump” is a phrase coined to describe people that pretend to not like Trump but condemn people who are angry at Trump as being too mean.
December 30, 2025 at 6:10 PM
By this logic pretty much everyone on Bluesky is anti-anti-Trump. Accusations of dems doing nothing and being weak are everywhere here, and half of them make no sense.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer my words to actually have meanings.
December 30, 2025 at 5:53 PM
So maybe Will is wrong here, but saying he is anti-anti-Trump because the aggressive action he thinks should have been taken is infeasible doesn’t is bizarre.
December 30, 2025 at 1:27 PM
He is criticizing her for not being more aggressive. Say what you will but that’s the opposite of anti-anti-Trump
December 29, 2025 at 4:13 PM
You can have some more Radical policies without being a toxic psycho, and Cuomo was clearly more of the authoritarian stripe than Mamdani, for all his being “centrist”, and I say this as someone who very much liked Bloomberg.
December 29, 2025 at 1:07 PM
So I know the strain of tankie academic leftist you mean, and I don’t think Mamdani is of that type at all. Like I don’t love his rent freeze and free bus ideas, but he’s clearly engaging with and listening to people. He kept Jessica Tisch on as police commissioner.

Silicon Valley bros have real trouble with Tolkien literacy.
December 29, 2025 at 3:39 AM
I’ll honestly take it if it makes the Right wing justices even a tiny bit more moderate.
December 28, 2025 at 5:19 PM
I… don’t know what you mean by that?
December 28, 2025 at 5:16 PM
The Best scenario is someone pays the maintenance costs and keeps the building, but low enough rents mean that landlords won’t.

To be fair this doesn’t apply to most rent stabilized units since there’s a wide range of “below market but profitable”
December 28, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Sure but then what do you do? There Are properties in the city that are worth more if the land is empty due to rent control since they can be developed into market rate, which is pathological given construction costs. Also begging for an “accident” to happen even without insurance money.

She’s running in a D+19 district. If she wins it will be a sign that she knows how to win a democratic primary, not a competitive seat.
