Remember that not all art advice is GOOD art advice and stressing yourself out because you think you shouldn't use reference only makes things worse.

Many extremely skilled artists use reference. Just use it.

If any artist tells you that using reference is cheating/isn't truly learning and you have to struggle with getting a pose just right without it?
