Registration closed! 🚨

The EU-WISH training on "Automated reporting for wastewater-based surveillance" by Sciensano has received 97 fully completed applications.

The selection process is now underway, and all registrants will be informed of the outcome by 6 October 2025.
Promotional graphic for the EU-WISH Training program on "Automation of reporting for wastewater-based epidemiology," organized by Sciensano. It highlights 4 online sessions of 3 hours each. The design includes icons of data charts, a clock, a person writing, and a computer screen displaying graphs with R, Shiny, and GitHub logos. A large sign in the foreground reads: "Registration is closed." Logos of EU-WISH, Sciensano, and the European Union (co-funding) are also visible, with the grant agreement number 101140460.

Candidozyma auris needs more attention in the Wastewater Surveillance Community, too. It's recognized by AMR experts, but usually not focus of discussion.

While there are challenges to overcome, Wastewater Surveillance can be a tool to gather necessary intel on Candidozyma spread.

⚠️ Without systematic surveillance & mandatory reporting, the true scale of C. auris in Europe is likely underestimated.

⏱️ Early detection & coordinated infection-prevention & control remain essential to limit further spread.

Choosing the right approach isn’t easy: rely on clinical cases only, or complement with wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) data?

That’s why EU-WISH brings experts together, to strengthen wastewater surveillance for better public health decisions.

#episky #IDsky 🧪
A cartoon of a man standing in front of two doors, visibly unsure which to choose. One door reads "Rely on clinical testing only" and the other reads "Complement with WBS data". In the second panel, he appears stressed, sweating and holding his forehead. The EU-WISH logo appears in the bottom right corner. An illustration of a conference room with a stage and empty chairs, overlaid with logos from University College Dublin, Statens Serum Institut, National Public Health Organization, HSE, and HPSC. Text reads: "EU-WISH EXPERTS meet in Dublin." Below is the event info: "EU-WISH International Workshop, 9 - 11 September 2025, Dublin, Ireland" with the Irish flag pin icon and EU-WISH logo. A graphic titled "Two Days of Exchange – Dublin International Workshop". Day 1 focuses on "Prioritization", shown with a matrix of pathogens and tick/cross marks. Day 2 is about "Integration", visualized with puzzle pieces being connected. Text at the bottom reads: "Final actionable products". The event info appears again with the Irish flag pin and EU-WISH logo. A follow-up cartoon from the first image. The man now looks relieved, still sweating, but smiling as if having made a decision. Text underneath says: "And you, what would you do?" followed by the EU-WISH event info and logo: "EU-WISH International Workshop, 9 - 11 September 2025, Dublin, Ireland".

In Dublin, we will focus on:

* Day 1: Setting priorities, pathogens and approaches.
* Day 2: Integrating targets into real public health action.

With shared knowledge and collaboration, we are ready to make the right call.

Seems like there's some hidden Naughties infection in the population. Cannot measure that in wastewater yet - but we're open to suggestions of possible indicators :D

While a close monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 incidence might be less relevant than during the pandemic phase, regular sequencing for variant surveillance is still important.

EU-WISH is collecting wastewater surveillance strategies suitable for an affordable SARS-CoV-2 variant surveillance.

Tracking the spread of Arboviruses in Europe will be a challenge. #Wastewatersurveillance might be up to the task. Pilot projects are already running.

#EU_WISH experts might be able to shed light on Arbovirus epidemiology in Europe should the see success.

Here’s what you need to know about covid this summer as infections rise
Experts say it may be too early to know how large a surge in coronavirus cases we will experience this summer and urge people to get vaccinated.

Germanys wastewater surveillance still picks up vaccine strain poliovirus.

This is a prime example of wastewater surveillance at work, helping to prevent illness by indicating possible future health threats! Informing people is a first public health action taken.

☑️ Was Ärztinnen, Ärzte und Eltern wissen sollten

Was wichtig ist

🎮 Far from a traditional presentation, this game-based format sparked strategic thinking, tough trade-offs, and dynamic team debates proving once again that games can drive deep scientific discussion.
