At a conference? Why not check the speaker against the Disclosure UK database? They might be paid thousands of pounds from the pharmaceutical industry. I think we can agree transparency is important - but I suspect many (?most) doctors don't know about it.

Nick Clegg - here he is, again, rationalising the staggering malignancy he has blithely facilitated. Austerity and its litany of deaths. Tuition fees and the disintegration of HE. Facebook and the tech bros. If there is a social ill or moral void seems we'll find him greasing the wheels.
‘If I felt Zuckerberg and Sandberg were monsters, I wouldn’t have worked at Meta’: Nick Clegg on tech bros, AI and Starmer’s half measures
When Britain’s former deputy PM took a job at Meta, nothing could have prepared him for the ‘cloying conformity’ of the tech world. So why does he still think social media is a force for good?

Obviously most doctors respect confidentiality and there are important considerations around training/learning - but I think that is at the heart of it. They just don't frame it as the patient's story - doctors frame it as theirs.

Been wrestling with this at the journal for years. My experience is that there is a deep rooted fundamental assumption amongst doctors that patients’ stories are theirs to share/tell.

The review also found a lack of evidence about who is most likely to be missed, highlighting the need for more research to understand and prevent inequalities at this crucial point of care.

Or being used the least Ben… sometimes it’s what is not being done that matters. One that springs to mind is methadone/buprenorphine for people who use drug/opioid dependence - and problems with prescribing it to them when admitted.

Quite. It’s a rum affair when so little policy is directed towards addressing social determinants of health.

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

Oh - that is such sad news @releasedrugs.bsky.social. I didn’t know Peter personally though had been on the occ meeting with him. He did remarkable meaningful work for people who use drugs - from a place of real compassion and he leaves a powerful legacy.
