Writing a baseball article and taking shots at the Garfield board game of 1981, feels good. This is what I was meant to do with my life

For @baseballprospectus.com I wrote a preview of today's NL Division Series games. Both home teams enter the game down a key outfielder. And all four teams are starting LHPs, though at least one won't be there for long. www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article...

On Tarik Skubal, and the difference between feeling like you need to be perfect and actually needing to be perfect.

www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article...
What makes perfectionism so insidious is that it’s a disease wrapped in virtue, like coating a dog’s pill in peanut butter. It’s not a bad thing to strive to be the best you can be. It might not be worth it, necessarily, in all realms of life—diminishing returns do apply, check with your doctor—but there’s nothing inherently harmful in wanting to be perfect, to embody the sort of life or virtues you uphold. The problem is in the necessity. Like so many psychological problems, perfectionism is created in a dissonance between reality and perception. The gap between those realms creates anxiety, negative feelings about others and, far more often, about one’s self. It’s thinking I’m not good enough when everyone else thinks you’re fine. It’s failing to understand that people don’t really need each other to be perfect, most of the time.

Except with the Detroit Tigers and Tarik Skubal. They do need that, most nights.

Today for @baseballprospectus.com I wrote about Tarik Skubal, perfectionism, and the opposite of perfectionism, which doesn't really have a tidy word to describe it.
