Today was a good day. IPP has officially retired, and Los Angeles is officially coal-free! In 2009, LA's energy mix mirrored the entire country's. Half its power came from coal. Today, it's coal-free and approaching 2/3s carbon-free power. If only every city and utility had LA's ambition and vision.

It's certainly not a perfect vision, but there's a lot to like too. That Hyundai is trying to build a green steel mill in the US at a moment when other companies are backing away and political headwinds are growing suggests a strong internal business case.
