Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

Yah, these are all excellent examples of ways to talk about solutions. Is the broader point that we shouldn't talk about climate though?

Do you have suggestions on how to more effectively communicate emissions reductions?

The scenes out of Chicago should outrage us all. These federal agents are out of control, committing senseless acts of violence & putting everyone at risk.

Great news: The EPA is withdrawing its proposal to delay the implementation of hazardous air pollutant standards for coke ovens. Very good news for breathers in steel communities. It's nice to win! www.epa.gov/system/files...

Delta was chosen as the site after a long drawn out fight over the #Kaiparowits power plant. First proposed at an enormous 6 GW, Kaiparowits would've sat atop the largest undeveloped coal field in the southwest. Today that coal is in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

In today’s @latimes.com: My column on California’s last coal plant, which is finally closing next month. It’s located in Utah and operated by the city of Los Angeles. I spent a few days poking around: www.latimes.com/environment/...

"When a proposal unites labor unions, manufacturers, climate groups, and politicians from both parties, it’s a clear sign that it delivers for everyone. AB 1280 is that rare bill. Sacramento can’t afford to miss this opportunity to invest in our local economy, our workers, and a healthier future."

16 years after @billcorcoran.bsky.social kicked up a storm about Los Angeles' dependence on out-of-state coal and came up with a plan, we're a month out from the city and state going coal-free. Very gratifying. Great update from the one and only @sammyroth.bsky.social.
Commentary: California is finally quitting coal. Here's what comes next
To replace a 40-year-old Utah coal plant, Los Angeles is investing in green hydrogen.

It takes a LOT to get a bill all the way through the CA legislature. Help us seal the deal by asking @cagovernornewsom.bsky.social to sign AB 1167 (protecting Californians from paying utility political & promotional costs in their energy bills) and AB 1280 (supporting industrial electrification)!
