The agents had already disarmed Pretti when they shot him over and over again. An agent walked away with the gun in hand.
Another agent can be heard asking "Where's the gun?!" after the shooting, because it was not in Pretti's possession when they opened fire.

Worth remembering he was cordial to others in his circles because he was a cynical troll who barely believed his own positions: he just wanted to get paid and knew how to read a certain kind of room.
