Every year, hundreds of children in the US gain access to a firearm and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. So far in 2025, there have been at least 175 unintentional shootings by children, resulting in 72 deaths and 106 injuries nationally.

A 5-year-old girl was unintentionally shot and wounded by her 6-year-old brother last week in Cincinnati, Ohio. Authorities have not yet shared how the children were able to access the gun.

At least two people were shot and killed, and 12 others were shot and wounded, late last night in downtown Montgomery during the Alabama National Fair. Police described the firearms used as “high capacity.”

This is preventable. We all deserve to enjoy a night out without fear of being shot.
