Although if "first rally" works as a surface then "first of rallies" might work just fine presumably? Ultimately I'm against "rally first" because it's too colloquial/wishy-washy in its intention and is going to annoy people and lead to conversations like this one.

Agree largely with the principle you're arguing. "Rally first" just about passably recognisable as a not-technically-strict version of "Rally's first", but "First rally" can never be reasonably interpreted as "first of rally", it can only really mean taking rally as a whole word & it's the first one
