Took my 15 yo cat to the cardiologist to confirm some things her vet suspected based on a heart murmur first heard last July.

(Her heart isnt tech. too big. Rather it's thickened because of a genetic predisposition her known-breed has. But "you made you're heart too thick" sounds weird, ya know?)

...Why do I feel like I need to check if it's a changing that was handed back to us?

Welp, that answers that question.

I work at a haunt and we teach classes to help our actors develop. One of my classes is all about movement, silhouettes, and ones physicality. However this class hasn't been well attended the last two years despite my boss thinking it's one of the top 3 for actors, especially new ones.

After I finish sorting through some non-art things I'm thinking of going back to the ArtBox and make a thread over my favorite re-discoveries
Sorting through and tossing shit out (a visit to my parent's hoarder-home is, unsurprisingly, motivating) and I've stumbled across the artbox holding selected -pages from long-discarded sketchbooks. Amongst them is this note from some art class and it tickles me everytime I'm reminded it exists

Tangent: when Sweden did a longitudinal study across their population of the disorders that ADHD put you at higher risk for, the short answer was "All of them."

And that the increased risk was *understated*, since we're also more likely to die early before those conditions would have developed.

Disabled artists not only already exist (and have always existed), but *OUR* art is in the fucking datasets that AI stole. Mine's in the LAION training set that everything is built on, probably ripped from DeviantArt without my consent.

The fuck do you get off claiming that you're *helping* us?
Always love it, as a disabled artist, when ai evangelists try to tell me my objection to their planet-heating plagiarism machines is ableist.

Whenever I start to entertain the thought that I'm normal something on my desk leaps up to slap me in the face and remind me that I'm not. (Feel free to add your own odd desk-inhabitants. The less context the better)

I've made a beautiful coat from a thrifted curtain&bedsheet and I'm so damn proud of myself as I feel like there is an objectively noticeable improvement in my sewing skills.

And tomorrow I'll be dropping it off at work where it will be bloodied and torn up. 🥲 #hauntwork

DreamWidth.org: a great place to do your long form blogging also it will annoy the bejesus out of rah if we make it the next big thing
We're not even super fussy about optimizing stuff! We get extremely sloppy about performance sometimes! Because the overall architecture is extremely performance tuned still from the days when we had to and also we don't load any of that fucking garbage

I shared it elsewhere, in a response, but here's a tutorial for a binding technique I devised to make cheap mini comics pretty easily, with no butterfly stitch so they stack flat too.
Maybe it helps someone out there?

It works because, frankly, I don’t think most writers start a project thinking “I want to win an award” or “I want to be recognized as a Classic Writer”. They think “I want this to reflect my experiences” or “I want to describe spaceship HVAC” or “I want people to get real horny about girls”
Going to share a little trick for writers who (like me) struggle with the question “am I a good writer?”

The trick is: it doesn’t matter and you’ll never be able to fully assess that about yourself anyway. When you finish a project — book, game, whatever — just ask: “did I do what I set out to do?”

Texture's a little weird on this because of Glaze but here's a Maximilien and Akande (Overwatch) fanart/study of Leyendecker's "The Donchester, the Cluett dress shirt" (1911) I did last year and forgot to post here

And this...This is one of MANY problems I've had with them. If the design doesn't need a revision they've been absolutely great to work with. But the moment a revision needs to be done...I just don't have polite words right now.

It's been a battle and I have no idea why
Been designing patches for my job for the last 3 years and using the same company to manufacture them. Haven't had issues and never had to do revisions until this year. Spent 7 hours redesigning/simplifying a patch.

And they sent the Same. Exact. Picture. of the first patch as the "revision."

Today is the day. Nightshade v1.0 is ready. Performance tuning is done, UI fixes are done.

You can download Nightshade v1.0 from nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu

Please read the what-is page and also the User's Guide on how to run Nightshade. It is a bit more involved than Glaze

I've finally figured out how to categorize this year while talking to my oldest bro.

2023 was a marathon. Hard, grueling, regrets about halfway through. But now that it's done I'm incredibly proud of what I've accomplished. What I've survived. I never want to do it again, but happy I did it at all

I don't know if Technical Grimoire is on Bluesky yet, but I want to pass on one of the coolest worldbuilding tools I've seen:

The Cess & Citadel Intersection Generator. It gives you a random intersection of city streets, for your D&D game (or similar TTRPG).

I'm queer, love robots, and cannot escape my hyper-fixations even when they become shadows of their former selves and lose everything I loved about them in the first place.

So this feels like a fitting piece to kick off my intro on this new account while I figure out how everything works:
