i’ve already lost my first-ever sports bet because my goalie was a game-time decision with the flu. perhaps a useful omen against attempting this vice

@jonbois.bsky.social ”they want to fly balsa wood to the moon” in ep. 2 of “fool time” is one of those phrases i want to become an esoteric phrase. like an aristotelean or sun tzu quote, the kind of phrase which elicits gravitas and feeling, but only real ones know the true context of the phrase.

a few brief thoughts after tonight. firstly, dems can be a big tent and tailor messages accordingly to fit their electorates.

i think dr wu may be steely dan’s greatest (most haunting?) song solely for this part: fagen’s strung-out-right-the-hell-now vulnerabilities in the second verse, a wannabe bogart (see: KEY LARGO) besottedly whimpering towards the big sleep in a manner so earnest you fear he’s drawing from experience

One last thing on this for the moment: Scorched Earth Conan was incredible TV for a few weeks, and Scorched Earth Conan's enemy was fucking Jay Leno. Scorched Earth Colbert should be really good TV.

This is correct. Any candidate cynically “triangulating” on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so. There’s still so much time to advance candidates that DON’T suck.
I will never, ever vote for Gavin Newsom. Ever, under any circumstances. I don't care if he becomes the Dem nominee, he's still not getting my vote.
On a recent podcast Gavin Newsom tells Shawn Ryan how the Trans sports issue opened the door for him to change his mind on GAC for Trans Youth.

As someone who adored him since 2004 and voted for him 5 times, I can't wait for him to leave office.

There is no way I will be voting for him a 6th time.

i know that i have long been adopting my dad’s mannerisms, but when i caught myself playing cart drums and swaying my hips and singing “sock it to me sock it to me sock it to me sock it to me” to aretha’s respect while walking through target… it really hit home

just finished reading watership down. the film was the most impactful media i saw as a young child. of course, the book is richer, the mythology more enchanting, the nature descriptions transporting. yet i’m relieved to know the film well-captured the ethos of this rabbit tale. a treasure, both.

tessitore tried too hard to ramp up the energy going into the commercial break, i think because he did not initially see the fumble. but we were all confused and floored -- let that sit for a minute and also allow the drama of tonight's hero being humbled! no need for the gritted teeth melodramatics

To be living in a new place, without connections or any developed roots planted, on the day after the election is a strange feeling. Almost like being a tourist abroad; major things are happening all around me, and they will affect me very soon, but for now I am just a spectator.
