Guys, my onions have started to sprout! I planted these 9 days ago. So, I can officially say the 2026 garden has been started.

In other news, it's a miserably cold, windy, and snowy evening, so I'm going to spend it in the best way: bundled up with a blanket and a book.

Cheeseburger casserole for dinner tonight really hit the spot. Filling, delicious, and made enough for us to have leftovers tomorrow.

Today's library pick-ups. I always enjoy a David Attenborough documentary. As for the book, learning more about Maple Syrup seems like a good Canadian thing to do. #libraryhaul

They also had some free audiobooks that had been removed from the library's stock. This one caught my eye, so I brought it home. #libraryhaul

Today's library pick-ups. Since reading doen And Dusted earlier in the month, I knew I had to pick up the next novel in the series, so that's going to be one of my first reads in February. I can't recall if I've ever seen the movie Face/Off before, but we'll be watching it this weekend.

Happiness is purchasing a giant stuffed rhino. It's so hard to find rhino items, so whenever I find one, I HAVE to get it. This is now the largest rhino in my collection.

I've done everything on my to-do list plus a few extras, so now it's time to read. I'm finally diving into Red River.

In today's kitchen adventure, I baked a wacky cake, a loaf of country bread, and then I whipped up some homemade mustard, which turned out to be about a lifetime supply since I forgot to halve the recipe.

Look what arrived today! I ordered this a week ago and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. As soon as I'm done with my current read, which I'm over halfway through, I will be diving into this one.

Guys, the last part of my Christmas gift from my hubby arrived today. Now, technically, 7 of these books he bought me back in November at the used bookstore, but they were intended to be my gift all along, and then he ordered me the remaining 4 books to complete the series. #booksky 📚💙

My current read, and one I had intended to get to in 2025, but never got around to it. I started it last night and gobbled up the first half of it. It's a short book, about 200 pages, but it's quite interesting. #booksky 💡📚💙

A bit of a baking experiment today. We picked up a discounted turkey the other day and cooked it yesterday. Now, I am making turkey pockets. Think pizza pockets, but inside is turkey, stuffing, and a bit of gravy. They are so good! Going to make a bunch and put them in the freezer for future meals.

First library haul of the year. I can't believe I have never read The Wind in the Willows, but I will be fixing that soon. I'm excited for the Ruth Goodman book. I've watched so many of her shows and loved them, but have yet to read any of her books. #booksky #libraryhaul

Hubby bought this Made-up Words That Should Exist Calendar two months ago, and we have been eagerly awaiting the new year to arrive in order to start it. And then we almost forgot about it today! Anyway, here is today's word - Absurdiosity.

You know what, I'm interpreting this as a year filled with bread and I'm more than okay with that.

Made one final visit to the library for the year. This one will go on my January TBR.

A hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles really hits the spot after a walk on a cold winter day.

While cleaning today, I found an old signed Bob Gould hockey card. I've had this since about 1990ish, when he was one of my teachers in school. Out of curiosity, I looked it up on eBay. It's value? About $2-10.

Goes to show you that not all 'collectables' are worth much.

I got spoiled! So many books (with more on the way due to late ordering - oops). Plus, my son got me some of my favorite snacks as well.

Last year, I stopped using a planner and used a notebook instead to keep track of things. It worked fairly well, but I decided to go back to a planner for 2026.

For our final Depression-era dinner of the week, we had Hoover Stew. I did modify it slightly, using canned corn instead of canned beans. It was good.

Tonight's Depression-era meal is Baked Sausage with Noodles, a Canadian dish from 1933 created by the Maple Leaf Meats company. This was tasty and super filling.

Tonight's Depression-era dinner was slug burgers. No, they do not contain slugs. They are called that because they cost a nickel, and fake nickels were known as slugs. Great crunch, decent flavor, and very filling.

Tonight's depression-era dinner is pasta and peas, from Clara's Kitchen Cookbook, and a slice of bread. Simple but very filling.

Over the years, my family has done numerous themed weeks for dinner. This week, we are doing a combination of WWII and Depression era meals. Tonight, we had Spinach and Rice (from Clara's Kitchen), with a side of fried egg and some bread. Dessert was wacky cake. I highly recommend both!
