sometimes i'm reminded how joyously easy it can be to stumble into wonderful little stories all around you, and all before you have lunch, on a relatively quiet sunday.

it's way the fuck too hot for january right now, but at least it happens to be my favorite temp, so i can at least be comfy, too.

turns out the bagel guy's kid actuall made some really big films - some you've probably heard of, actually - but pops wasn't bragging about those; he was bragging about the first one, that he helped his son with back in 96. how fucking sweet is that.

he makes fresh OJ at that bagel place too.

the tattoo place was the new location of the same shop that did my very first ink back in 08, and the lady at the desk helped me remember the name of the guy that did it while i was petting her big dumb gorgeous pitbull mutt.

i'm hoping to get that new ink this weekend, once we settle the design.

truly, i have never seen one outside of cartoons and photos of old ads like the ones you posted

it ended up basically being a lesson about debunking/correcting basic misunderstandings about it, because people were a lot more comfortable writing things like "if we came from monkeys, why are there monkeys" and "how can bad things be genetic" anonymously, and prof earnestly addressed them all.

this is a great approach to a sweet topic.

back in undergrad, i had a prof who tried to do something similar - had everyone anonymously write a question they had about evolution on index cards, then collected them and answered the ones that came up the most.

i guess it rarely comes up for me cos, like, the propellor beanies are basically mythological - like, i've never seen one. so it's like if "dragon" were also a type of shoe or something.
