Holed up in my mother-in-law's house in Sapporo because of inescapable cultural obligations. Dogs, birding, cricket, Philly sports, Guinness, Nanoblocks, snowshoeing, local hikes, car-less, browser-only Bluesky and YouTube user, fixed-line fishing...
Are there any other Japanese residentialists who don't get that freaked out by earthquakes? Maybe a bit of a hot take....but they don't really do anything for me.

SOS---- Has anyone in Japan seen Guinness Draught (in the cans with widgets) in the supermarkets recently? Several months ago they seemed to have dried up here in Sapporo. Not sure why that is...all we can find here is the Guinness Original in the bottles, which, isn't gonna cut it....

Is there a word or phrase for the situation where a word you have muted in Bluesky keeps coming through because when the word appears in screenshots Bluesky can't filter the text? There should be a word for that...

Yesterday I ate at a bougie hotdog place in Sapporo that recommended we eat our "honey mustard garbanzo Greek/South African fusion" dogs out of a paper wrapper. Nope, in fact, I feel that both hamburgers and hotdogs need to always be eaten without the use of paper barriers. Hand to bun....directly

All this bad stuff keeps happening in the US and it got me thinking....Maybe the USA isn't "the greatest country in the world". Which is weird because Mrs. Rossiter, my first grade elementary teacher, told all of us exactly that...at least once a week. So I am a little confused.

Lots of purple haired old-folks in Japan. I assume it is hair dye going bad. A few questions:
1. Don't they care? I mean they took the time to dye it, so clearly they are self-conscious enough to notice.
2. If they don't notice it going shockingly purple, then how did they know it went gray?

People talk about our addiction to screens but the problem persists with older generations absolutely clockwork oranging themselves to their TVs. My 84 year old mother in-law is currently watching astro-turf ski jumping trials.

I always get a little miffed at elderly who say the secret to their longevity is continuing to work. More like, the culture of work has brainwashed you for decades and you never took the time to engage in a legitimate hobby outside of your job. It must be some kinda of capitalist propaganda.
